FT. COLLINS, CO—MAY 19, 2013—Grade 1 placed first crop sire Coronas Fast Dash got his first stakes winner from only two starts this season on Sunday.
Susan Hanson and Carol McKinney's Sign Of Corona, a gelding by Coronas Fast Dash, won the $26,000 Rocky Mountain Spring Classic QH Futurity at Pocatello Downs. Under jockey Dirk Crane the bay raced over the 330 yards in a quick :17.067 seconds to earn a 95 speed index and pickup the $10,400 winner's purse. Mark Hanson saddled the winner.
Owned and raced by Bobby D. Cox of Fort Worth, Texas Coronas Fast Dash has only two starters from 19 named two-year-olds this season, including the aforementioned stakes winner Sign Of Corona SI 96.
Coronas Fast Dash won or placed in nine of 15 career starts and earned $156,412. He was second in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Derby and a finalist in the All American Futurity(G1), Dash For Cash Futurity(G1), Rainbow Derby(G1), Remington Park Derby(G1), Leo Stakes(G2), Eastex Handicap(G2) and Higheasterjet Handicap(G3).
A son of leading sire Corona Cartel, the 8-year-old stallion is out of the stakes-placed Heza Fast Man mare Dash Fast Girl who died after producing three foals. She is also the dam of a full sibling, Kindergarten Futurity(G1) winner Vachetta SI 96 who won three of three starts at 2, earning $142,928; and Dash Fast Injun SI 98 ($18,028).
The second dam is the Dash For Cash mare First Prize Rose Too, dam to five ROM including stakes winner Fast First Dash SI 101 ($102,250) and RG3 placed First Black Rose SI 108 ($50,575) who is the dam of Southern California Derby(G1) winner First Black Wagon ($69,078). The third dam is a Grade 2 winning half-sister to all-time leading sire First Down Dash and former Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash.
