TATUI, BRAZIL–JUNE 9, 2023–Has Portofino announced via text today that Dashin Follies, a multiple grade 1-producing and breed shaping Quarter Horse broodmare, has died at the age of 24 due to infirmities of old age
"A sad day for the horse family in the Haras Portofino, Brazil and around the world, Dashin Follies has left us!" read the text. "A true legend of world gentics! Dashin Follies leaves an extraordinary legacy present worldwide through her children and grandchildren."
Dashin Follies, a daughter of leading broodmare sire Strawfly Special was born in 1999 out of the world champion First Down Dash mare Dashing Folly. Bred by Henry Brown and trained by Donna MacArthur she was unplaced in three starts at Los Alamitos Race Course at 2.
Michael Pohl purchased the brown filly, retired her from racing, and bred her to leading sire Corona Cartel in 2002.
Her first foal was multiple Grade 1 winner and leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon SI 107. The brown colt won seven of 16 starts to 3, earned $889,581 with wins that included the Texas Classic Futurity(G1), Texas Classic Derby(G1), Heritage Place Derby(G1) and runner-up I the Rainbow Futurity(G1) and Championship at Sunland Park.

As a sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon is poised to surpass the great Dash For Cash as the #6 All-Time Leading Sire of Money Earners later this year.
From 14 crops to reach racing age Pyc Paint Your Wagon has sired 833 winners, 245 black type (20%), earners of more than $39.88 million and average earnings per starter in excess of $31,600.
His top performers include Champion The Fiscal Cliff SI 109 (Champion,$580,425 [G1]), Curls Happy Wagon SI 103 (Champion, $360,674 [G1]), Mr Pyc To You SI 97 ($488,820 [G1]), Pyc Fun N Fancy SI 104 ($478,760 [G3]), Im A Fancy Pyc SI 92($454,765 [RG3]), This Candys Awesome SI 105 ($434,265 [G2]), Wagon Tales SI 99($427,579), Papaws Paint SI 101 ($423,111 [G2]), Freighttrain B SI 115 ($421,761 [RG3]).

Dashin Follies second foal was the Grade 1 placed and champion sire Ivory James SI 103, who won or placed in seven of 11 career starts and earned $220,026. Also a son of Corona Cartel, he was second in the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) and a finalist in the Remington Park Futurity(G1), Texas Classic Futurity(G1), All American Derby(G1) and Remington Park Derby(G2).
From 13 crops t0 race Ivory James has sired 575 winners, 141 black type (15%), earners of $23.1 million and average earnings of over $24,200.

From 41 registered foals, Dashin Follies is the dam of 23 winners, 25 ROM, 6 black type.
She is also the dam of stakes winner Mi Angela SI 107 ($137,723), stakes winner Folly N Dash SI 98 ($32,522), stakes-placed Eye Follies SI 01 ($101,315) and stakes-placed Follies Bergere SI 95 ($31,198).
Dashin Follies daughters have produced such stakes horses as All American Futurity(G1) runner-up Im Jess Special V SI 93 ($523,862), Heritage Place Derby(G2) runner-up Jesse D SI 91 ($245,157), AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship(G1) winner Jess Paint Your Lips SI 105 94 $158,952), TQHA 250 Stakes winner Jess A Dashin Angela SI 110 ($210,055), TQHA Sire's Cup Derby winner Jess Maser Angel SI 98 ($122, 117), to name only a few.
Pohl consigned Dashin Follies to the 2010 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale where she sold for a world-record Quarter Horse broodmare at auction price of $875,000. She was sold again at Heritage Place in the 2013 Fall Mixed for $250,000.
Has Portofino purchased Dashin Follies at private treaty in 2015 and exported her to Brazil in 2016.
Dashin Follies is reported to have a few new foals and embryos by All American Futurity winner and champion sire Teller Cartel, who is also owned by Has Portofino. They are currently using her last two oocytes to leading sire Apollitical Jess.
Dashin Follies has been laid to rest at Has Portofino in Brazil.
