Grade 1 Runner First Down Morn Arrives in Brazil

SAN PALO, BRAZIL—AUGUST 27, 2010—First Down Morn, a grade 1 placed son of First Down Dash, arrived in Brazil today.

Fernando and Karla Machado of Palminópolis, Brazil recently purchased the ¾ brother to 2010 Rainbow Futurity winner Hes Too Icy For Me from Jim and Marilyn Helzer of Arlington, Texas.

First Down Morn won or placed in seven of 13 career starts to 4, earning $193,829. He was third in the El Primero Del Ano Derby(G1) and a finalist in the Los Alamtios Two Million Futurity(G1), Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1), Governor's Cup Derby(RG2) and Sgt. Pepper Feature Handicap(G3).

He is out of the multiple stakes wining thoroughbred mare Icy Morn ($380,688). The daughter of Crowned Jewel has produced both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse stakes runners including stakes winner Icy Lane-TB ($119,670), grade 1 stakes-placed First Down Morn ($193,839), grade 1 stakes-placed Early Morning Bite ($115,581, 3rd Rainbow Futurity(G1), etc.), and stakes-placed Slightly Icy ($44,056, dam of Hes Too Icy For Me, $332,694 at 2, 2010).

The second dam is a half-sister to former Quarter Horse Broodmare of the Year Trippy Dip-TB, dam of champions Florentine, Calyx, Ive Been Blessed and stakes winners Royal Miracle Dip, Statement and Stylus. Trippy Dip is also the granddam of champion and multiple stakes sire This Snow Is Royal and grade 1 winner Evening Snow, etc.

First Down Morn stood last year at AVS Equine Hospital in Florida and his first foals are weanlings of 2010. He will stand the 2010 Southern Hemisphere season at Gentic Jump Ltda for a fee of $3,000 (R$ 6,000 Brazil Reais).
