Legacys A Streakin Gets Perfect Trip in John Deere AQHA Classic Stakes

LETHBRIDGE, ALB—MAY 13, 2012—Ed Borgstrom's Legacys A Streakin got a perfect trip in her season debut Sunday to win the $16,000 John Deere AQHA Classic Stakes at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club near Lethbridge.

The AQHA Challenge program and corporate sponsor John Deere added $7,500 to the purse for 3-year-old and up Challenge enrolled horses.

Under jockey Juan Carlos Garcia, Legacys A Streakin picked up where she left last fall when she closed out her 2011 campaign with a stakes victory at Lethbridge on October 8. Today she completed the 300 yard course for trainer Laurie Ferguson in :15.650 seconds, a 96 speed index.

The $8,480 (US$8,475) winner's purse pushes the mares career total earnings mark to $57,897. D. Friesen, A. Janzen and K. Siebert bred the gray 4-year-old in Colorado from the Corona Cartel mare Legacy Tells All. She is 5-3-2 in 13 starts.

Also making her first start of the season, Czech finished a half-length off the winner to earn $4,160 (US$4,158) for owner/breeder/trainer Richard Settje. Larris Allen rode the 3-year-old Corona Czech filly from the Strawfly Special mare Im Special Star. The brown filly had not started at Lethbridge since June 25, 2011. She completed her season last fall at Portland Meadows where she was a finalist in the Baxter Andruss Oregon Bred Futurity.

Laurie Ferguson also sent out 7-year-old Sepratariat to finish a game third while earning $1,920 (US$1,919). Ms. Ferguson also owns the Separatist gelding out of Pocketful Of Dreams, by Magic Dozen. Craig Wonnacott had the riding assignment. Howard and Toni Dixon bred the earner of more than $62,200 in Alberta.

Cr Lil Bit Of Ivory and Memories N Moments were in a dead-heat for fourth. Completing the field were Dash Poruno, Vox and Shakeyobouti.
