CLAREMORE, OK—NOVEMBER 4, 2012—Under jockey Stormy Smith, Jo Jos Rocket scored a 1½ length win over Hartack in the $28,090 AQHA Maiden Challenge Stakes Sunday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs. Lelas Dashing Stone was another 1½ lengths back to finish third.
Coming off a maiden win at Lone Star Park on October 12, Jo Jos Rocket covered the 350 yards in :18.066 seconds to get his second career win in four starts and pickup the winner's purse of $13,483.
Owned by Rodrigo Gonzalez, the gelded son of The Chocolate Rocket nearly doubled his career earnings total to $25,743. Javier Noel Contreras trains the sorrel out of Miz Proudest Chic, by Proudest Effort. Carlos D. Gonzalez bred him in California.
Dee Keener owns and trains Hartack, who is still a maiden after nine starts. The Tres Seis 4-year-old who finished second in his last two starts at Will Rogers has earned $14,575. Raul Gutierrez had the riding assignment. Judith Koontz and Curtis Palmer bred Hartack in Oklahoma from the Make It Anywhere mare Genie In Red.
Also still a maiden, the lightly raced Lelas Dashing Stone earned $2,809 for third. Martin Portillo owns and trains the Sc Chiseled in Stone filly out of Beduino Dashin Chick, by Dashinthruthesnow. Ridden by Fernando Comaco, the 4-year-old has only started three times, all of them this year. Deere Connection bred her in Oklahoma.
Completing the field were Mt Mighty Max, Ivory Jaine, Big Strawfly, Woman Abouttown and Guilty Heart.
