SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 8, 2013—Making his first start as 4-year-old, Hauling The Cash bounced back from a seventh place finish in the Sunland Park Winter Derby (G3) to set the top qualifying time Friday afternoon for the Red Cell Sunland Park Distance Challenge (G3).
The eight fastest qualifiers will return to the Southeastern New Mexico racetrack on March 31st and vie for the winner's share of a $50,000 purse and a starting spot in the 2013 $125,000 Red Cell Distance Challenge Championship (G1) next fall.
Under jockey Macario Rodriguez, Hauling The Cash defeated Jess A Traffic Jam by three-quarters in the first of two trials to set the top qualifying mark of :45,191. Kristopher Cordova conditions the Holland Ease gelding for J and M Racing and Farm.
Bred in Texas by Simmons Ranch, the 4-year-old has won three of 13 starts and earned $32,920. He out of the Takin On The Cash mare Take The Cash Willie.
Also making his first appearance around the turn, Dm Streakin Thru Fire, under jockey Casey Lambert, raced to a 1 ½ length victory in the second trial to post the second fastest time of :45.487.
The Walk Thru Fire 5-year-old races for James Sturdivant, Terry Wood and Joe David Yates. Michael Joiner trains the gelding out of Sashay N Six, by Sixarun. Bred in Oklahoma by Don Moler, Dm Streakin Thru Fire has earned $418,853.
Reigning Distance Champion All About Larry finished a tiring fourth while making his first appearance since winning the Grade 1 Red Cell Distance Challenge Championship in track record time last fall. The Heza Motor Scooter 6-yaer-old qualified with the seventh fastest time.
