KENNEWICK, WA—MAY 4, 2013—First Specialist broke the 350 yard Sun Downs track record in race 4 on Saturday, the AQHA Dick Monahan Maiden Challenge. Four races later Ought To Azoom lowerd the mark another 10/100 hundreds to get the new record.
Zoetis Sun Downs Starter Allowance Challenge
Fastest qualifier Ought To Azoom broke a four-race old track record Saturday afternoon when he scored a half-length win in the $21,510 Zoetis Sun Downs Starter Allowance. First Specialist had broken the previous Sun Downs 350 yard track record set in 2011 (see below) in the fourth race.
Both horses are owned by San Gregorio Racing Stable, Inc. and trained by Danny Montes. Under jockey Ruben Lozano Ought To Azoom covered the 350 yards in :17.350 seconds, earning a 111 speed index and the new track record title.
The $9,985 winner's purse boosted his career total past $57,400 and garnered him a starting spot in the $75,000 Zoetis Starter Allowance Challenge Championship on November 9 during Bank of Challenge Champions Night at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Four-time winner Ought To Azoom is a 6-year-old gelded son of Azoom from the First Down Dash mare Ought To Be Famous. Henry E. Brown bred Ought To Azoom in Oklahoma.
Eyes Movin earned $4,302 for owner Ruben Magallanes and trainer Hector Magallanes. Troy Stillwell rode the Mr Eye Opener 6-year-old out of Movin Meter, by Meter Me Gone. Brenda Hoover is the breeder.
Snowbound Superchick finished a nose back in third for owner Pablo Madrigal. Also trained by Hector Magallanes, Luis Gonzalez had the riding call. Robert Pulse bred the Snowbound (TB) 4-year-old in Washington State from the Chicks Beduino mare Chicks Starlite.
Ez Seis Me, Danner, Fast Intention, Cc Senor Frog, Chicks Loveta, Fullafun and Wave The Chicks completed the field.
AQHA Dick Monahan Maiden Challenge
Fastest qualifier from the April 20 trials First Specialist returned to Sun Downs Saturday afternoon to get her second career win. The 4-year-old filly won the AQHA Dick Monahan Maiden Challenge by 1-¼ lengths and set a new track record.
Under jockey Reuben Lozano the First Down Dash colt completed the course in :17.420 seconds, a 109 speed index. Full Snow Moon established the previous record of :17.350 on May 7, 2011.
Danny Montes conditions the 4-year-old for owner San Gregorio Racing Stables. The $9,754 winner's purse boosted his career total to $23,489. Regal Choice, Inc. bred First Specialist in California from the Special Effort mare Specialista.
Gary Chumbley's homebred Gc Streakin Okie finished second to earn $4,240. The Okey Dokey Dale gelding is still a maiden after 10 starts, while finishing second and third eight times. Scott Raley trains with Jose Guerrero riding. Cg Streakin Okie is out of the Beda Cheng mare Bedaub Adash.
Monty Arrossa saddled Royal Down Special to a third place finish for owner/breeder Abigail Kawananakoa. The First Down Dash colt is out of the Strawfly Special mare A Royal Goddess. Paul Greene was aboard.
Completing the order of finish were Blues Man Too You, Jess Mairi, Best Kept Secrets, Sollovino, Lil Bit Texas, Fergilicious and Victoriousecret.
