Long Lost Buddy Gets Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge Victory In Disqualification

KENNEWICK, WA—MAY 6, 2017—Multiple stakes winner Long Lost Buddy got his third career stakes win on Saturday after Genuine Version and L Bar D Genuine Red were both disqualified for interference in the $28,890 Adequan Sun Downs Derby at Sun Downs in Kennewick, Washington.

Genuine Version, who was three-quarter length winner, was disqualified and placed last for inference after the start. L Bar D Genuine who was a nose ahead of Long Lost Buddy was moved from second the seventh for interference.

Trainer Mark Hanson conditions Long Lost Buddy, a son of leading third crop sire Favorite Cartel, for owner's RTM Stables LLC, Ben McKenney and Richard Gardner. Eddie Aceves was aboard to pick up the winners' purse valued at $13,289. The brown gelding was timed in :20.801 seconds into a 5-mph crosswind for the 400 yards.

The California-bred gelding also picked up a starting spot in the October 14th $180,000-Guaranteed Adequan Derby Challenge Championship(G3) to be contested at Prairie Meadows during the Bank of America Challenge Championship Night.

Bred by Steve Burns, DVM, from the Corona Cartel mare Remember The Cartel, Long Lost Buddy has compiled a (6) 5-0-1 record and earned $71,717. Last season he won the Bitterroot Futurity and Rocky Mountain Spring Classic Futurity.

Following the disqualifications, Downside Embezzler was moved to second and earned $5,778 for owner Jess Matt. Hector Magallanes trains the Montana-bred son of Embezzlement(TB) out of Rambling Maggie by The Down Side. Walther Larson is the breeder.

Mike and Sherry Reardon's homebred Separate Flame was moved up the third-place. Bill Hoburg trains the Washington-bred daughter of Separatist from the Agouti mare Aflamin. She picked up $2,889.

Completing the official order of finish were Flyin Rocks, Cm Woody Blue, Stellur, L Bar D Genuine Red, Sr Mighty Leader Jet, Mariota Man and Genuine Version.
