KENNEWICK, WA—APRIL 27, 2019—Arizona Favorite was the fastest of three qualifiers for trainer Hector Magallanes in the Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge trials on Saturday afternoon at Sun Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races today, will return Sun Downs on Saturday, May 11 to vie for the winner's share of a $25,000-added purse going 400 yards. The winner will also garner a starting spot in the $150,000-est. Grade 3 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship October 26th at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Magallanes saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Favorite Cartel for owner-breeders K and R Allred Ranch LLC. The Arizona-bred, out of Check Her Cash by Check Him Out, has compiled a (8) 2-3-1 record and banked $37,245. Two races back he finished second in the $136,850 Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Magallanes also saddled second fastest qualifier Singles Cruise who rolled to a 1-¼ length win in the first trial. Also ridden by Samuels, the graded stakes winning daughter of Favorite Cartel clocked :20.342, also a 93 speed index with a 10 mph crosswind.
Racing for owners Barry and Janice Sather, Singles Cruise entered the trials off a win in the James Smith Memorial Handicap at Los Alamitos Race Course April 7. Also the winner of the Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity(G3), the brown filly has won eight of 14 career starts and banked $84,367. Steve D Burns, DVM bred Singles Cruise in California from the Mr Eye Opener mare Going Single.
Magallanes also conditions 10th fastest qualifier Kr Olive Oil, a daughter of champion Foose.
