RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 29, 2010—Jacque Seis confidently pulled away in the final 100 yards to score a 10-1 upset win in the $40,950 Merial New Mexico Distaff Challenge on Sunday at Ruidoso Downs.

The win earned Jacque Seis an invitation to the Grade 1 $125,000 Guaranteed Merial Distaff Challenge Championship at the Fair Grounds Race Course on November 19.

Jacque Seis, a 4-year-old daughter of Tres Seis, broke alertly under jockey Ricky Ramirez and then surpassed her odds in the final half of the race for fillies and mares. She strided out for the one length win in :19.651 for the 400 yards.

It was tight for second place with Silk Mountain prevailing by a neck over Quic Jess.

The Luis Romero-trained Jacque Seis was overlooked after not winning in her latest six starts, dating back to October, 2009. She was second in the Mark T Bars Stakes at Yavapai Downs two starts ago and then finished in fourth place behind fastest-qualifier Jesstifiably Stoli in their Merial New Mexico Distaff trial.

Jacque Seis is co-owned by Romero with Felizardo Mendez.

Runner-up Silk Mountain , trained by Ralph Muniz, finished second in the $53,000 Adequan New Mexico Derby Challenge two starts ago and was third in her Merial New Mexico Distaff trial. The Panther Mountain filly, owned by Joel Valeriano and Joel Valeriano, Jr., earned $7,740. Oscar Rincon was aboard.

Third-place finisher Quic Jess was making her stakes debut and has finished in the top three in her latest four starts for trainer Sleepy Gilbreath. The Separatist filly owned by Dream Walkin Farms and M. Bello and Johnny T.L. Jones earned $3,870. Joe Martinez was in the saddle.

Completing the field were Righteous Tessa, Tennessee Totty, Jesstifiably Stoli, Shines Likea Rainbow, Irmas Poem, Jessy Jane and As Takin First.
