Favorite Bling Steps Up In Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge Final

KENNEWICK, WA—MAY 5, 2018—Racing for a tag last year at Los Alamitos Race Course, 3-year-old Favorite Bling earned her first black type on Saturday when she defeated L Bar D Razle Dazle by a neck in the $38,700 Adquan Sun Down Downs Derby Challenge.

Ridden by jockey Salvador Ibarra, Favorite Bling completed the 400 yard task in a quick :19.858 seconds to earn 107 speed index.

It was the second consecutive win (third lifetime) for the daughter of multiple stakes sire Favorite Cartel. Conditioned by trainer Juan Jose Romo, Jr., the black filly entered the derby final off the second fastest qualifying time in the April 21 trials.

Owned and raced by Juan Morales, Favorite Bling has compiled a (11) 3-0-2 record and today's challenge payday of $17,802 boosted her earnings total to nearly $26,000.

Donald and Peggy Boyle bred Favorite Bling in Oregon from the Hawkinson mare Spring Bling, a sister to champion Strawkins and Grade 1 winner Bf Farm Boss.

Stakes winner L Bar D Razle Dazle earned $7,740 for owners Tryn Espelien and Hernan Torres. Trainer Hector Magallanes saddled the Ragazzo gelding out of Dash Home Deb by Strawfly Special. The sorrel gelding put in a game effort under jockey Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa to finish second. Darrell and Linda Sander is the breeder.

Fastest qualifier Corona B Gone finished a nose back in the blanket finish to take home $3,870 for third. Also trained by Magallanes, the son of multiple stakes sire Favorite Cartel races for owner Ruben Magallanes. Michael and Shannon McKay bred the multiple stakes-placed gelding in Oregon from the Shazoom mare Go Girl Gone. Corona B Gone has earned $23,020.

Favorite Bling and runner-up L Bar D Razle Dazle each earned an invite to the Grade 3 $150,000-est. Adequan Derby Challenge Championshipo during the Bank of America Challenge Championships November 18 at Los Alamitos Race Course.

True Copy, L Bar D Classic Trip, Super Starr, Coronas Bar, Bringonthewave, Favorite Fire Boy and Toastdinero completed the field.
