PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 5, 2017vFourteen 2-year-olds, all of whom will be making their first career start, have been entered in Sunday’s 350-yard John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge trials at Turf Paradise.
Brockmire, a homebred son of Texas Icon owned by Ralph and Carolyn Fales, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite in the first of two heats. The gelding prepped for his debut with a 220-yard gate work in :11.79 at Turf Paradise on March 16, the fastest of 12 drills at the distance that day.
Brockmire drew post 3 and will be ridden by Mark Jasso for trainer Matt Fales.
Ricardo M. Ramirez’s Jessapolitical Guy heads the field in the second trial. A Louisiana-bred son of Apollitical Jess trained by Rigoberto Guillen, the sorrel colt is out of Famous Corona Lady, a 7-year-old daughter of Corona Cartel and a finalist in the 2014 Ruidoso Futurity (G1) and ’15 All American Derby (G1). Jessapolitical Guy was a $30,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
Jessapolitical Guy drew post 3 and will be ridden by Emilio Tapia.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the April 28, $25,000-added John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge final.
