Eye N Capo Established As Heavy 3-2 Favorite In Sunday’s G2 Bank Of America Challenge Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 9, 2019—Eye N Capo, a winner of four of his last six stakes races, has been made a solid 3-2 morning-line favorite in Sunday’s Grade 2 $60,000-added Bank of America Challenge at Remington Park.

Those four stakes wins for Eye N Capo came at Sunland Park in New Mexico, Evangeline Downs and Delta Downs in Louisiana, and Sam Houston Race Park in Texas. Three of the stakes wins were in $50,000 events and the other had a purse of $20,000.

Trainer Josue Ponce trains this 5-year-old gelded son of Capo de Capi, out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Satisfeyen, and once again regular rider Jesse Levario will be in the saddle for this 440-yard race, the finale of 10 races on the Sunday afternoon card.

Eye N Capo, owned by Ruben Garcia Montemayor of Roma, Texas, has won 10-of-17 lifetime for earnings of $495,910. He has also run second three times and third twice. He has won and run second in three tries at Remington Park for $58,992 at this track. He ran second, beaten a neck in the $305,000 Remington Park Derby two years ago on April 22, 2017. He has not raced here since finishing sixth in the Heritage Place Derby trials at Remington on May 14, 2017.

In 10 starts since last racing at Remington, Eye N Capo has won five of those races, and not been worse than third. Three times in those non-wins he lost by two necks and a head, so he is always competitive. He was bred in Oklahoma by Dee and Betty Raper.

The second favorite in the morning line odds in the field of 10 older American Quarter Horses is Rock About It, out of trainer Tammy Johnson’s barn. The 5-year-old gelding by sire Rock Solid Jess, out of the Coronas Blackdiamond mare Not Sable Shes Rose, won the $50,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes on March 16 in his only start at Remington this meet.

He has been off since March 16, almost two months, but he is a horse that loves Remington Park. He has won five of 10 starts at this track and earned $116,559. Jockey Randy Wilson was up for owner Rockin J Running Horses of Gatesville, Texas, when Rock About It won the SLM Big Daddy and was named to ride Sunday again.

Rock About It was made the second choice in the morning line at 4-1 odds. He has won 8-of-20 starts for a bankroll of $206,485. He was bred in New Mexico by Sarah E. Donaldson Rioux.

The top money earner in the field by far is AJs High, a 7-year-old gelding by Apollitical Jess, out of the Rare Form mare Regally Rare. This horse is owned by Michael C. Teel of Columbia, Mo., trained by Charley Hunt, and will have regular rider Stormy Smith in the irons.

AJs High hasn’t won a stakes race since 2017, but has pocketed an impressive $853,211. He has won 15-of-32 races lifetime. He has started twice in stakes races at Remington in 2019, but has run sixth and eighth, respectively, in the $100,000 Sooner State Stakes on April 20, and the $68,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes on April 4. The horse has had some problems getting out of the gate in those starts and if he can get a clean break would be no surprise in an upset. He is listed at 12-1 in the morning-line odds.
