Summer Sale Graduates Dominate John Deere Rillito Juvenile Trials

TUCSON, AZ—MARCH 1, 2020—A pair of "summer sale yearlings" won two trials and posted the top two qualifying times Sunday afternoon for the John Deere Rillito Juvenile Challenge at Rillito Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Rillito Park on Sunday, March 22nd to vie for the winner's share of $30,000-added purse as well as garner the first spot in the 2020 Grade 2 $125,000-est. John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G1) to be contested October 24th at Albuquerque Downs.

Wagon Of Speed, a $30,000 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate, won the second trial under jockey Kevin Cabajal to get the top qualifying time of :18.834 seconds. The son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon races for owner Jose Mendoza and trainer Eloy Navarro.

Blackwater Bengal won the trial was DQ'd and placed fifth for interference.

Wagon Of Speed, out of Significant Speed by Duel Fuel, was making his first career start. Reliance Ranches bred the colt in Oklahoma.

Mendoza and Navarro teamed to qualify two other finalists for the John Deere Juvenile. Charlies Fast Man qualified 4th fastest and All Red No Blue got the 10th and final spot. Both are sons of champion and champion sire Apollitical Blood.

The opening trial went to Juan Clark's Avenger B, an $8,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate conditioned by Havid Canez who stopped the clock in :18.421 seconds for the second fastest time. Bielau Oaks bred the gelding in Texas from their Separatist mare Sierra Madre B. Elias Gutierrez was riding.

Canez also saddled 6th fastest qualifier Run Away And Hide, a daughter of the thoroughbred stallion Run Away And Hide and 8th fastest Zooming For Kappie, a gelded son of multiple stakes sire Capo de Capi.
