PHOENIX, AZ—OCTOBER 16, 2016—First crop sire Texas Icon dominated two trials Sunday for the AQHRA Futurity at Turf Paradise. The G2 son of Corona Cartel sired four of the ten finalists including fastest qualifier Arizona Icon.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Turf Paradise on Sunday, October 30th to vie for a $10,700-added purse going 350 yards.
Ridden by jockey Vince Guerra, Arizona Icon completed the 350 yards in :17.958 seconds to record the top qualifying mark.
Trainer Matthew Fales saddled all four Texas Icon sired qualifiers. Arizona Icon, a homebred for owner/breeder Las Vegas Ranch, broke his maiden in the trials. In two previous starts the bay gelding had placed third. He is out of the Feature Mr Jess mare Jess Perfect and has pocketed $2,747 this season.
The four fastest qualifiers came from the first trial.
Also breaking her maiden today was Eyeaseagull, who set the fourth fastest time after winning the second trial in :18.248 seconds for owner Armando Perez-Gomez and trainer Ricardo Saldana.
Francisco Giles rode the daughter of Eyeameasy from the Benton Creek (TB) mare Miss Benton Blue (TB). She has compiled a (4) 1-2-0 record and earned $4,033.
Ely Mendoza was the only other trainer with multiple qualifiers, getting three into the October 30 final.
