Glimpse Of Fire Prevails in TQHA Futurity Final

FREDRICKSBURG, TX—JULY 16, 2017—Under jockey Claudio Aguilar, fastest qualifier Glimpse Of Fire veered out at the start but still prevailed by half-a-length over Alinas War Princess to win the $34,500 TQHA Futurity at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds on Sunday. Louisiana Fast finished a head back in the show position.

Owned-and-trained by Martin Rodriguez, Glimpse Of Fire captured his first career stakes win after completing the 350 yards in :17.908 seconds, a 93-speed index into a 10-mph crosswind.

With a record of (5) 3-1-0, Glimpse Of Fire used the $12,075 TQHA Futurity winners' purse to increase his bankroll to $17,475. He was also a finalist in the Grade 3 Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge last May. Mario Rodriguez bred the son of Glimpse Of Greatness in Texas from the Mr Eye Opener mare Pie Opener.

Trainer Arturo Terrazas III saddled runner-up Alinas War Princess for owner/breeder Terrazas Family. Rodolfo Fierro rode the gray daughter of The Louisiana Cartel out of Prairie War Princess by Dashin Is Easy. Still a maiden from four starts, she picked up $5,175 for the effort.

Louisiana Fast, also a daughter The Louisiana Cartel earned $3,450 for her third-place effort. Jorge Luis Barrera trains the brown filly for owner Mariel Guerra, Jr. Jorge Haddad bred Louisiana Fast in Texas from the Embrujo Fg mare Fast Fast Fast. She has two thrids in three starts this year.

Completing the field were Coronel Corona, Tempting Pink, Lone Star Albi, Secret Aces, Driven By Results and Nika Sofia. Hoover Valley Slick was scratched.
