Super Star Wins Idaho Cup Futurity, A Cartel Hustle Earns Stakes Double With Idaho Cup Derby Win

IDAHO FALLS, ID—JULY 22, 2017—Sandy Downs hosted the $19,125 Idaho Cup Futurity and the $15,237 Idaho Cup Derby on Saturday's race card.

Idaho Cup Futurity

Dan Moon's Super Starr was never headed as he raced to a one-length win over The Bossgirl in the $19,125 Idaho Cup Futurity Saturday afternoon at Sandy Downs. Miss Czech finished three-quarters back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Cordarelton Benn, Super Star completed the 350-yard course in :17.654 seconds to earn a 98-speed index into a 5-mph crosswind.

David Greene conditions the homebred son of Hadtobenuts for owner/breeder Dan Moon. Out of the Red Hot Rhythm mare All Star Elite, Super Star has compiled a (6) 2-3-0 and used the $7,650 payday to more than double his earnings total to $12,718.

Trainer Monty Arrossa saddled runner-up The Bossgirl for owner A-Arrow Ranch. Nakia Ramirez rode the Class Jump filly out of the Dash Ta Fam mare Fanny B. She picked up $3,825 for her effort.

Miss Czech, a daughter of Ragazzo owned by Martin Gomez, earned $1,913 for third. Freddy Olmos trains with Jesus Virgen getting the riding assignment aboard the brown filly out of the Corona Czech mare Czech Royal Camilla. Olmos is also the breeder.

Makn A Twister, Jt Easy Bug, Easy Blue Vodka, K T Olsen, Sevenzz and Dashair Special completed the field. Dashing Jager was scratched.

Idaho Cup Derby

Last year's Idaho Cup Futurity winner A Cartel Hustle returned on Saturday to take the $15,237 Idaho Cup Derby with an impressive one-length win over One Sweet Fool. Js Blaze Away finished 1-¼ lengths back for third.

Ridden by jockey Jesus Canales, A Cartel Hustle completed the 400 yards in :19.556 seconds, a 103-speed index into a 5-mph crosswind. It was the fifth win in 11 starts for the son of Favorite Cartel and the $6,095 winners' purse boosted his earnings total to $36,891.

Trainer Mark Hanson saddled the black gelding for owners' RTM Stables LLC, Larry Chapple and Dick Wasia. The Idaho homebred is out Mothers Gift by Feature Mr Jess.

Runner-up One Sweet Fool flew from the gate under jockey Nakia Ramirez but had to settle for the second-place check of $3,047. Jay Pitcher conditions the One Sweet Jess gelding for owners Ralph Harline and Kirk Woolf. Woof bred the palomino gelding in Idaho from the Dash To Chivato mare Gigarad. A stakes winner, One Sweet Fool has earned $23,161.

Owned, bred and trained by Jeff Steadman, Jr Blaze Away picked up $1,524 for third. Daniel Carrillo rode the homebred son of Agouti from the Judge Cash mare Judging Julie.

Cm Partners In Crime, Rumpled Britches, A Stubby Corona, La Formenta, Kipassured and Jess Vista completed the field. Fames Dash was scratched.
