RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 20, 2019—In the $100,000 Corona Cartel, for horses who did not qualify for the Rainbow Derby, Marc and Michelle Jungers' Fire Up Eagle pulled off the 18-1 upset with a win by a head over One Ruthless Eagle Saturday at Ruidoso Downs.

Suze Returns was one length behind One Ruthless Eagle for third.

Fire Up Eagle raced the 440 yards in :21.400 for his first win from five 2019 starts. Raul Ramirez Jr. was the jockey.

A gelding by One Dashing Eagle, Fire Up Eagle ran for a $12,500 claiming price two starts before his Corona Cartel win worth $42,000.

"We knew that he would go a quarter mile," Marc Jungers, who is also the trainer, said.

"We wanted to get a race into him so we ran him for $12,500."

Last year, Fire Up Eagle scored one win from six starts. He gained his victory in a Lone Star Park maiden race.

Daniel Nunez and Ernesto Fierro's runner-up One Ruthless Eagle came off an impressive one-length win in his Rainbow Derby trial over 2018 champion two-year-old colt Flying Cowboy 123. It was One Ruthless Eagle's maiden victory.

Jose Luis Muela trains the son of One Famous Eagle from the Strawfly Special mare This Dreams Flying. Bred by Johnny Trotter, the bay colt has compiled a (8) 1-3-2 record and today's $18,000 purse boosted his bankroll to $27,415.

Esgar Ramirez was up on One Ruthless Eagle.

Joe Rios' Suze Returns has been a solid stakes competitor and was the 5-2 favorite. The High Rate of Return-sired filly won last year's Grade 2, $260,000 West Texas Futurity, was second in the Grade 1, $1-million Rainbow Futurity and third in the Grade 1, $150,000 Southwest Juvenile Championship.

Jamie Parga Leos was the jockey for trainer Juan Carlos Gonzalez. Flag Ranch LLC bred the filly out of Brown Eye Suze by Mr Eye Opener in Oklahoma. She has earned nearly $391,000.

Uncurled Fist, Sumokeonthewater, Moonflash Numbers, Coach A Comin, Southern Belle Bp, Df Lord Garvan and Fast Flash Gordan completed the field.
