Shockinglyfamous Gets First Stakes Win In Altoona Derby

ALTOONA, IA—OCTOBER 12, 2019—Shockinglyfamous rallied under jockey Sergio Dominguez to score his first career stakes victory by defeating Jess Doin Time by a neck in the $129,794 Altoona Derby Saturday night at Prairie Meadows.

Saddled by trainer Kasey Willis, Shockinglyfamous completed the 400 yard task in a:19.404 clocking to earn a 105 speed index with a 15 mph tailwind.

Racing for owner Stone Chase Stables and Alexia Willis, Shockinglyfamous earned $51,918 to boost his earnings total to $115,837. A finalist in the Grade 1 Rainbow Derby over the summer at Ruidoso Downs and last year's Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park, the bay son of leading sire One Famous Eagle was bred in Texas by Clarence Scharbauer III. He is out of the Thoroughbred mare Shocktime by Langfuhr.

Multiple stakes winner Jess Doin Time earned $22,065 for second-place. Jason Olmstead trains the Minnesota homebred for owner-breeder Tom Pouliot. Justin Shepherd rode the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Rare Form mare Leans Rare Lady. Jess Doin Time has banked $184,835.

Fastest qualifier Apollitical Mogul put in a strong bid under jockey Berkley Packer to finish three-quarters off the leaders in third-place. Also trained by Olmstead, the bay daughter of Apollitical Jess races for owner Tom Maher. Bred in Texas by Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm, LLC, Apollitical Mogul won the Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge two races back. She picked up $12,929 to increase her earnings total to $121,059.

Heza Blues Man, Vf Wheely Favorite, Americas Dynasty, Miss Blue October, Vf Count Dracula and Full Power Eagle completed the field. Jess Wagon P was scratched.
