CLAREMORE, OK—NOVEMBER 9, 2019—Fastest qualifier Valiant High, under jockey Agustin Silva, got up at the wire to defeat Peves Candy Cowboy by a head in a blanket-finish to the $87,920 Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Derby Saturday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs. Tarish was a neck back to get third.
Valiant High completed the 350 yard in :17.683 seconds, equaling a 92 speed index into a 7 mph crosswind, to take home the winner's purse valued at $35,668. Charlton Hunt trains the son of champion sire Valiant Hero for owner Jerry Windham.
Peves Candy Cowboy outran his 25-1 odds, just missing and taking home $16,526 for second. Antonio Hernandez saddled the Cartels Candy Man gelding for owner Michael Michan Pittman. Gonzalo Valles, Jr. was riding the Gordon Pevehouse Oklahoma-bred out of Pyc Eye Candy by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
J. Lloyd Yother's Tarish finished a game third under jockey Daniel Torres to earn $10,850. Dee Kenner conditions the Prospect To The Top gelding out of Fast Prize Zoom by Shazoom. Bred by William E. Smith, Tarish has earned $120,774. He won the Speedhorse QH Derby two races back.
Watah Litical, Missapollitical, A Tempest, Ss Wagon Painted Bay, Valliance, Scaredy Pants and Vf Jedi Returns completed the field.
