PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 24, 2019—Favorite Latin Lover ducked in at the start but recovered nicely under jockey Joseph Belloc, Jr. to get up by a nose over My Favorite Candy in Sunday's second of two trials for the AQRA-Turf Paradise Open Quarter Horse Futurity at Turf Paradise.

The son of leading sire Favorite Cartel clocked the 400 yard course in :19.735 seconds, a 92 speed index, to set the top qualifying time. In his previous start the Desert Classic Futurity winner suffered his only career loss to My Favorite Candy in the $29,925 AQRA President's Fall Futurity at Turf Paradise November 3.

Owned-and-trained by Rigoberto Guillen, the brown gelding has compiled a (5) 4-1-0 record and banked $32,316 this season. Steve Burns, Paul Jones and Thompson Racing bred Favorite Latin Lover in Texas from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Charming.

Coming off a win in the aforementioned AQRA President's Fall Futurity, My Favorite Candy drifted out under jockey Kevin Carbajal, just missing but still hanging on to the second fastest qualifying time of :19.741 seconds, also a 92 speed index.

Guillermo Morales conditions the gelded son of Favorite Cartel for owner ABA Quarter Horses LLC. Guadalupe Bujanda bred the bay 2-year-old in California from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Send The Candy Wagon. He has banked $19,839 in eight starts this year.

Jockey Jorge Bourdieu rode the first of two qualifiers, Looke At Me, to a half-length win in the opening trial to get the fourth fastest qualifying time of :20.050 seconds for trainer Matthew M. Fales.

An Arizona homebred racing for owner-breeder's Ralph and Carolyn Fales, Looke At Me is a daughter of world champion sire FDD Dynasty from the Jesse James Jr mare Jess One Looke. It was the first win four starts for the filly who was a finalist in the Turf Paradise John Deere Juvenile Challenge last April.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from today's two trial races, will return to Turf Paradise on Sunday, December 15th to vie for the winner's share of a $17,500 purse going 400 yards.
