OGDEN, UT —MAY 24, 2020 —In the final event on a card stacked with stakes races, Fdd Swinging Dynasty won the $25,125 KVN Corona Derby, sponsored by KVN Corona, at Weber Downs on Sunday afternoon.

The 350-yard derby was restricted to Utah-breds; two trials for the 350-yard final were held on May 10.

The first of the two trials produced the three fastest qualifiers to the race, two of whom returned to finish in the top three of the final. Fdd Swinging Dynasty, third in her trial, was the third-fastest qualifier. In the final, she defeated the field by three-quarters of a length with a time of 17.662 and a 104 speed index.

Fdd Swinging Dynasty was ridden by Oscar Cervantes for trainer Alvaro Torres and owner Darian Burt. The trial had been her first start of the year and her first start in Utah; she broke her maiden at Ruidoso last summer.

The daughter of FDD Dynasty was bred by Jerry Windham out of the graded stakes placed mare Jess a Swingin, by Shazoom.

The connections had two reasons to celebrate: Torres also trains Burt’s Apollitical Jess filly, Her Apolitical Pyc, who finished in second place.

Her Apolitical Pyc won the second trial to the KVN Corona Derby and was the fourth overall fastest qualifier. Jose Figueroa returned to ride her in the final. Darian Burt also bred Her Apolitical Pyc, out of the graded stakes placed mare Her Painted Wagon, by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.

Her Apolitical Pyc broke her maiden with the trial victory; as a 2-year-old, she raced at Ruidoso and Lone Star.

Fastest qualifier Ld Definitely Maby finished a close third in the final with Jose Guzman aboard for trainer Riley Moosman. The Jr Dynasty Mountain gelding is owned and bred by Lewis Dillree, out of the Jess Louisiana blue mare Barbs Blue Smoke.

Ld Definitely Maby is four for seven lifetime, including two victories in futurity consolation races at Laurel Brown and Elko.

Video replays of each race are available on the Utah Quarter Horse Association Racing YouTube channel.

Completing the field were Turbulent Eyes, Ikes R Hero, Furry Look, Steppen Mr Perry, Sign of Turbunence and Makn Risky Moves. Hiphopopotamus was scratched.
