Big Daddy Cartel 2-Year-Olds Dominate Desert Classic Futurity Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 5, 2021—Multiple stakes sire Big Daddy Cartel's offspring dominated three trials on Monday for the Desert Classic Futurity at Turf Paradise, posting the four fastest trial times while earning eight of the 10 qualifying spots.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Turf Paradise on Wednesday, April 28th to vie for the winner's share of $60,000-est. final at 300 yards.

Day Thuggin, a 2-year-old son Big Daddy Cartel, broke his maiden in his career debut Monday while posting the fastest time. Ridden by jockey Adrian Ramos, the New Mexico-Bred gelding dueled stablemate Bf Shes Outrageous to ta nose win to get the top qualifying time of :15.652 seconds, a 92 speed index into an 11 mph headwind.

Racing for owner-breeder Jason Giles, Day Thuggin is conditioned by leading trainer Wesley Giles. He is out of the Grade 3 Four Corners Futurity winner Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle by Maknmoves.

Runner-up Bf Shes Outrageous held on to the second fastest time of :15.659 seconds, also a 92 speed index. Also trained by Giles, the daughter of Big Daddy Cartel races for owner Kevin Birrell. Emilio Tapia had riding call on the gray filly out of Bf Outrageous by Proudest Effort. Birrell Farms is the breeder.

Giles also saddled third fastest qualifier Tickle The Nickel, a daughter of Big Daddy Cartel from the Gone To The Mountain mare Penny Snatchin. Adrian Ramos rode the bay filly for owners Jill Giles and Kathy Lee to the third fastest time of :15.779 seconds from a half-length victory in the second trial. Jill Giles is also the breeder.

Coming off a winning effort in the career debut on March 10, Mister Bigg finished third in the fastest trial to get the fourth fastest time of :15.801 seconds, an 81 speed index. Heraclio Botello, Jr. conditions the Big Daddy Cartel colt for owner Diego Creus. Webb Ranch LLC bred Mister Bigg in South Dakota from the Jesse James Jr mare Sandys Jesse.

Giles was the leading trainer with five qualifiers while Eric Valenzuela saddled three finalists to the Desert Classic Futurity final.

Ezra Lee's homebred Run Time was a 1-¼ length winner in the opening trial to record the sixth fastest time of :15.872 seconds. Giles saddled the New Mexico bred daughter of Big Daddy Cartel mare from the DMNV Mountable mare First Prize Amanda. Emilio Tapia was riding.
