B In Excess, under jockey Kevin Carbajal, went wire-to-wire in the opening trial Tuesday to set the fastest qualifying time for the AQRA Turf Paradise Open Spring Futurity.

B In Excess Impressive In Debut, Sets Top Mark in AQRA Turf Paradise Open Spring Futurity Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 6, 2021—B In Excess, a 2-year-old daughter of world champion sire Freighttrain B, posted a 1-½ length win in her career debut today (Tuesday) while setting the top qualifying time from six trials contested for the AQRA Turf Paradise Open Spring Futurity.

The 10 fastest qualifier will return to Turf Paradise on Wednesday, April 28th to vie for the winner's share of a $17,500-added purse going 300 yards.

Racing for owner-breeder S and S Horses, B In Excess under jockey Kevin Carbajal put in a sharp wire-to-wire effort to stop the clock in :15.508 seconds, equaling a 97 speed index with now wind, to establish the fastest time of the day.

Trainer Eloy Navarro saddled the California-bred filly out of the Thoroughbred mare Excess In Tambien by In Excess (TB). B In Excess banked $2,062 for the effort.

Hs Hawk, a 2-year-old New Mexico-bred son of multiple graded winner Osbaldo, broke his maiden with an impressive two-length win in the fourth trial to pick up the second fastest time of :15.519 seconds, a 97 speed index into an eight mph headwind.

Owned-and0trained by Ivan Tafoya, Hs Hawk was ridden by jockey Jimmy Coates. Hubaldo Solis bred the brown gelding from the Chimes Band (TB) mare Lady Chimes.

All-time leading sire First Down Dash got the third fastest qualifier when New Year Secret, ridden by jockey Luis Valenzuela, cruised to a 1-¼ length win in the fifth trial in a time of :15.719 seconds, a 90 speed index.

Jesus Olivas-Valenzuela trains the $39,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate for owner Ricardo Ramirez. Silver Racing Farm LLC bred the gray filly in California from the Separatist mare Secret Separation. This is the family of All American Futurity(G1) winner No Secrets Here.

Trainers Eloy Navarro, Wesley Giles and Eric Valenzuela got two qualifiers each into the futurity final.

Apollitical Jess was the leading sire with two qualifiers, 4th fastest Kj Desparado and 8th fastest Apollitical Showoff. First-crop sire Fly Thru The Fire sired the 6th fastest qualifier, Thru My Eyes.
