Sundancin Kid Outbests Competition For Upset In The $127,820 Rock Spring Wyoming Bred Futurity

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–OCTOBER 1, 2022–Sundancin Kid outbests the competition for a slight upset in the $127,820 Rock Spring Wyoming Bred Futurity at Sweetwater Downs on Saturday.

Trainer Riley Moosman saddled Sundancin Kid, who had the tenth fastest time in the trials with his fourth place finish. Going in with 15-2 odds at the post, the 3/4-length victory guided by jockey Manuel Ramos paid $18.40 to win. The son of Pappasito clocked a 97 speed index in :15.537 seconds in the 300-yard straightaway. 

Owned by Chris Nebeker, Sundancin Kid has two career wins in his freshman campaign and was a finalist in the Ron Cook Futurity at Wyoming Downs in June The $51,128 winner’s share of the Rock Springs Futurity ups his earnings to $56,205.

Bred by Jim Nebeker, Sundancin Kid is out of the Maknmoves mare Josie Bassett.

Conditioned by Glade Van Tassell, Moments made a late surge for second under the guidance of Cordarelton Benn. The two-year-old daughter of Glock has yet to break her maiden and has earned $30,388 for owners/breeders Dan and Patricia Baker. She is out of Bk Katniss by Hard Hitting.

Coming in third with Jesus Virgen in the irons was Where Is My Corona. The daughter of Salt Point Bay broke her maiden in August and was fourth in the Wyoming Accredited Stallion Owners Futurity with $21,913 in earnings. 

Ricardo Robles conditions Where Is My Corona for owner Luis Angel Caballero, who also bred her is partnership with Raul Caballero. Her dam is Keepyourshirton by Foose

The remaining order of finish is Gotta Have Corona D, Jess A Corona D, Eyesa Special Gunner, Vvr Country Kid, Chasing Glock and Dynasty Switch. Blazin Fleeter was scratched by his trainer.

The 12th season of live horse racing begins Saturday Aug. 21, and extends through Sunday October 2. Gates open at noon on Saturdays and Sundays with post times set for 1 p.m. Races will also be held on Friday, September 9, and Friday, September 16. Post times for both Fridays is 4 p.m.

Race fans unable to attend live racing in person can place bets at any Horse Palace location and enjoy the latest game additions where a nearly $800,000 jackpot was recently won. The nine locations include two in Casper, two in Cheyenne and one in Evanston, Gillette, Green River, Rock Springs and Sheridan.
