The Rainbow Derby and Oaks trials will be postponed until Monday, July 1, 2024 due to the safety

RUIDOSO, NM–JUNE 30, 2024–Ruidoso Downs Race Track will postpone today’s scheduled Rainbow Derby and Oaks trials until Monday, July 1, 2024. The first post time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

“The safety of our athletes is always our top priority,” General Manager Rick Baugh said. “We are working to make the race track safe again after the flooding, and we believe we’ll be able to conduct the Derby trials tomorrow.”

The flooding was caused by runoff from the burn scars of recent wildfires. The race track is working with FEMA and Lincoln County officials, who are required to assess the burn scar damage while repairs are being made to the race track.

“We’re swiftly working to move forward with track repair but are required to meet government approval to pass environment standards,” Baugh said.
