ALEXANDRIA, LA–JULY 2, 2024-The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association (LQHBA) will award five $2,000 scholarships to further the education of Louisiana students on Saturday, July 13 at Delta Downs.
The exciting night of the 2024 Quarter Horse racing season will feature several quality stakes, including the Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1), Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby (RG3), and Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Oaks.
The scholarship drawings will be awarded as part of the very special evening saluting accredited Louisiana-bred racehorses. Scholarship participant/entrant must be a Louisiana High School graduate or a student who will graduate from a Louisiana High School in 2024 or 2025 and is planning to attend a higher education institution. Louisiana residents enrolled in a Louisiana College or University are also eligible.

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–JULY 2, 2024–The rescheduling of trials for the Grade-1 $800,000 Rainbow Derby and $482,000 (est.) Rainbow Oaks, Presented by Rolling Still Vodka and Ponderosa Whiskey, will be this Saturday and Sunday pending approval by the New Mexico Racing Commission.
Eight trials for the Rainbow Derby will be added to the race card on Saturday, July 6th, and five trials for the Rainbow Oaks will be added to the card on Sunday, July 7th.
The finals for both stakes events will occur two weeks later during the Zia Festival, July 20-21.

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–JUNE 30, 2024–Due to continued flash flooding from the burn scar areas in the Ruidoso area, Ruidoso Downs has canceled racing on Monday that was going to be used as a make-day for the Rainbow Derby trials.
"Our track crew has done an outstanding job in saving the base of the race track since the flooding began," General Manager Rick Baugh said. "The town experienced additional flooding today which also came down the river and made the track repairs more difficult. We will continue to work on the track and prepare for racing next weekend."
As to what the future holds for the 2024 Rainbow Derby trials, Baugh said a decision will be made as quickly as possible about when or if the trials will eventually be held.

RUIDOSO, NM–JUNE 30, 2024–Ruidoso Downs Race Track will postpone today’s scheduled Rainbow Derby and Oaks trials until Monday, July 1, 2024. The first post time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
“The safety of our athletes is always our top priority,” General Manager Rick Baugh said. “We are working to make the race track safe again after the flooding, and we believe we’ll be able to conduct the Derby trials tomorrow.”

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–JUNE 29, 2024–Flash flooding from the recent burn scars damaged the race track Saturday afternoon during trials for the $1 million Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.
The damage occurred from debris that was carried down the Rio Ruidoso into the Ruidoso Downs community from flooding that occurred in midtown Ruidoso and other areas. Track officials are clearing mud and debris from the river that runs underneath the turn that leads into the backstretch.

Gary was born on December 2nd, 1946, to Dorothy and Earl Muller. His parents instilled in him a hard work ethic on their farm near Newman Grove, Nebraska. He graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1964, where he dated and married his high school sweetheart, Lola Johnson.

GRANDE PRAIRIE, TX–JUNE 27, 2024–Please note that starting on Saturday, June 29, training hours will be from 5:00 am to 9:00 am, with a break at 6:55 am. This change is being implemented to allow more time between training and racing in order to prepare the racing surface adequately.

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–JUNE 24, 2024–Ruidoso Downs Race Track has created a special account for members of the horse racing industry to make a donation for victims of the recent South Fork and Salt Fires in the Ruidoso area.
"The entire community has been impacted—we have a number of our local residents that have lost their homes," General Manager Rick Baugh said. "Ruidoso Downs will provide $20,000 in seed money to open the account and we challenge all members of the racing industry to help by making a tax-deductible contribution to the account that will go directly to victims of the recent fires."

This coming weekend, June 28-30, Ruidoso Downs Racetrack will host trials for the Rainbow Futurity(G1), Rainbow Derby(G1), and Rainbow Oaks(G1). Entering last Friday, 327 horses are set to compete in two days of trials Friday and Saturday for the $1-million Rainbow Futurity, with 17 races carded each day.
