EDMONTON, ALB—JUNE 26, 2024—Multiple stakes winner Pretty Sweet Jess will put her five-race win streak on the line Saturday when she faces a full field in the $39,270(CAN) Adequan Century Downs Derby Challenge at Century Mile Racetrack & Casino.

Carded as Race 2 on Century Mile Racetrack & Casino's 11-race schedule on Saturday, the 400-yard Adequan Century Downs derby Challenge estimated post is 4:15 p.m. (MDT).

The daughter of multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess has not lost a race since July 2023 and enters the Saturday Challenge race off an impressive 1-1/4 length win in the CTM Horsemen's Derby on May 25.

Trainer William Leech has named jockey Ricardo Moreno to ride the California-bred filly for owner Jerry Stojan. Stojan purchased Pretty Sweet Jess for $17,000 from breeder Veronica Gail Kawananakoa at the 2022 Los Alamitos Equine Mixed Sale.

Pretty Sweet Jess has won five of seven career starts, including the Canada Cup Futurity(G3) and the John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge. She has earned more than $74,000 and starts from post 4.

Undefeated in two starts this season, Fired will have to step up in class as he enters the Challenge Derby off a 2-1/4 length win in the Century Mile Maiden Express in his last start on May 24.

Also trained by Leech and owned by Stojan, the gelded son of Fly Thru The Fire will have jockey J.B. Botello back in the irons off the inside rail.

Bred by Steve D. Burns, DVM, from the Separatist mare Ruths Chris, Fired has earned $27,466 from a (7) 2-3-1 record. The last time Fired faced Pretty Sweet Jess, he finished third in the Canda Cup Futurity(G3).

Alberta Bred Futurity winner Bitterroots Wagon will make his 3-year-old debut from post 7 for owners Buckey Stockwell and Glenn Willis. Stockwell is the breeder and trainer of the six-time winning son of third-crop sire Jd Wagon Boss.

Also, winner of the Sales Stakes Futurity last year, Bitterroots Wagon was bred in Alberta from the Sizzlin Red Corona mare Bitterroot Corona. He has banked $54,021.

Century Mile's first race is the 110-yard $20,000 CTM Sprint Stakes for 3-year-old and up Quarter Horses. First post is 3:35 p.m. (MDT).
