Last Year's Champ One Fabulous Boy Defends His Title In The AQHA PM Championship Challenge [G2]

ALTOONA, IA–AUGUST 18, 2024–One Fabulous Boy wins the $59,466 AQHA Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge [G2] on Sunday for the second year in a row. He broke from the gates in the middle of the pack but dug in for a slight upset over favorite Nothin Like You.

Angel Ramirez guided One Fabulous Boy to the wire in :21.295 seconds, clocking a 106 speed index, which is 2/10ths of a second off his own track record set last year while winning the same stakes race. The victory paid $7.80 to win on 5-2 odds.

Nothin Like You ran a game second the entire trip under the guidance of jockey Stormy Smith. One Stolin Eagle, piloted by Jorge Torres, led most of the way but was edged out in the final strides for third.

The 440-yard victory earns One Fabulous Boy a berth into the $265,000-estimated AQHA Challenge Championship [G1] at The Downs at Albuquerque on October 26.

Trained by Edward Ross Hardy, One Fabulous Boy has eight career victories from 17 starts. The $27,354 payday increases his earnings to $184,333 and marks his second win of the season.

Owner Paul Wolfe bred the five-year-old son of One Fabulous Eagle in Oklahoma in partnership with Diane Wolfe. One Fabulous Boy is out of Check Out Kaelie by Check Him Out.

Trainer John Hammes saddled runner-up Nothin Like You for owner Bradbury Racing, who bred him in partnership with Lisa Beauprez. The five-year-old son of Favorite Cartel has lit the board 21 of 24 starts with 11 wins and $458,654 in earnings, including the Keokuk Stakes [G3] last month. The seven-time stakes winner is out of Whos Kissin Carter by Carters Cartel.

Third-placed finisher One Stolin Eagle has four career wins with $96,479 in the bank. Trainer Jose Villafranco conditioned the four-year-old son of One Fabulous Eagle for owner Francisco Lopez. The $20,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate bred by Darling Farms is out of Stolin Sign by Stoli.

A Legacy Of Tales, Relentless Legacy, Bourbon Colored Man, Wieburg, Relentless Summer, Isa Super Freak, Just Call Me Jess, and Mistakin Idenity complete the order of finish.
