Streaks Of Power Remains Undefeated This Season With Grade 1 Victory

ALBUQUERQUE, NM–OCTOBER 26, 2024–Streaks Of Power broke sharply from post four and led at every call en route to a half-length win in Saturday’s $120,975 Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Championship (G1) for fillies and mares at Albuquerque Downs.

Prepped by Monty Arrossa, Streaks Of Power covered her 400-yard trip in 19.367 under the guidance of jockey Armando Cervantes. She recorded a 95-speed index, and the victory paid $7.40 to win on 5/2 odds.

Streaks Of Power defeated Paint Your Lips P, with Jimmy Brooks in the saddle, by a 1/2-length. The longshot paid $14.00 to place. Lynnder 16 and rider Ramiro Garcia placed third just a neck behind, which paid $3.80 to show.

"Everyone loves it when their horse wins, but the smile on my wife's face makes me the happiest," said Ken O'Brien.

Bred in Louisiana, Streaks Of Power is out of Streaks Of Ivory, a daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Ivory James, who won the 2017 Iowa Double Gold Futurity at Prairie Meadows.

The daughter of multiple stakes sire Power Jam (TB) extended her win streak to three races, including a wire-to-wire, 1 1/4-length victory in the August 4, $26,000 Cox Ranch Los Alamitos Distaff Challenge. Raced in four states, Streaks Of Power has won five of her nine starts, including three of four at the 400-yard distance, and the $55,649 winner’s share of the purse from her second-stakes victory and first-stakes score increased her earnings to $139,354.

Streaks of Power won both trial heats and achieved the fastest qualifying time for the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Oaks and All American Oaks in 2023. However, she did not finish in the top positions in the finals, placing fifth and seventh, respectively.

Trainer Eddie Lee Willis saddled runner-up Paint Your Lips P for owner Priscilla Arredondo. The five-year-old mare has a record of 3-9-3 from 23 starts and $226,586 in the bank. Her only starts this year include a second-place finish in the Will Rogers Distaff Challenge Stakes [G3], which earned her a spot in tonight's Distaff race.

Michael A Pohl bred the stakes-winning daughter of Jess Good Candy in Oklahoma. Paint Your Lips P is out of Jess Paint Your Lips by Jess Louisiana Blue.

Tom Maher and Richard Tobin own the eight-year-old Challenge race super horse Lynnder 16. The 14-time stakes-winning daughter of Apollitical Jess has lit the board 35 of 44 starts with 23 victories, 14 in stakes competition, and $920,486 in earnings. She was bred out of the Corona Cartel mare Tinys Corona Queen in Oklahoma.
