CYPRESS, CA–DECEMBER 16, 2024–For the second straight year, the winner of the AQHA Challenge Championship posted a great effort in the Grade 1 $600,000 Champion of Champions. Last year, Tres Of Eagle ran a terrific third after winning the Challenge Championship.
This year, Abel and Ethan Lopez and Manny Dutchover's Shakers No Secret found his best gear shortly after the start and ran outstanding from there to finish in third place behind former world champion Empressum and multiple stakes winner Jess Good Wine.
Ridden by Noe Garcia, Jr. for trainer Marc Jungers, the 4-year-old by Five Bar Cartel earned $60,000 for finishing third.
Shakers No Secret was making his first start on the West Coast as well as his first start since winning the Grade 1 $277,975 AQHA Racing Challenge Championship at Albuquerque Downs October 26.
A $14,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate in 2021, Shakers No Secret has compiled a (28) 9-6-4 record and banked $502,414. The son of champion Five Bar Cartel was also a multiple Grade 1 finalist in the All American Derby and the Ruidoso QH Derby.
In seven-crops to race, Five Bar Cartel has sired 264 winners (66%), 64 black type (16%), earners of more than $11 million with average earnings over $27,600. Shakers No Secret is his top performer.
Garlyn O. Shelton bred Shakers No Secret in Texas from the No Secrets Here mare Shaker Secret, a half-sister to AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship(G1) winner Stolis Angel SI 106 ($125,342). Shelton crossed Stolis Angel on Five Bar Cartel and got the Grade 1 Rainbow Derby runner-up Five Bar Stoli SI 96 ($212,344).
The second dam is the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity winner Eyesa Shaker SI 99 ($256,473).
