Sales Across-The-Board Up as Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale Opens

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–AUGUST 30, 2024–A $550,000 colt by leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 and and a $500,000 filly by leading sire Favorite Cartel, purchased by the same buyer, led the first session Friday of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

Gael Garza paid $550,000 for Hip 47, Hadtoxplain, a colt by leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 out of the stakes winning Foose mare Hardtoget. Marty Powers, Agent for Louis A. Malechek III consigned the full brother to Grade 2 winner Flyin Rabbit 123. This is the family of Grade 1 winner Lynnder 16. Champion Filly Tiny First Effort is the third dam.

Garza also stayed for the last yearling to sell on Friday, Hip 212 Pretty Miss Patty. He paid $500,000 for the first foal from the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) winner Apollitical Patty. Julianna Hawn Holt consigned the daughter of leading leading sire Favorite Cartel.

The first session of the two-day sale concluded with 158 horses selling for a total of $11,134,000, a 46% increase over last year's first-session gross with 17 less horses selling. The average price was $70,468, a 30% increase over the 2023 opening session, and the median also rose, from $40,000 to $42,000.

"On the heels of a very successful New Mexico Bred Sale we are once again very happy with the results of tonight's sale," All American Ruidoso Horse Sales Manager Walt Wiggins said Friday evening.

Jimmy Barton, Lance Bland, Gary Cain, and Caliche Walls Venture paid $350,000 for Friday's third high-seller, Hip 206 Favoritetang. Grant Farms consigned the Favorite Cartel colt from the Corona Cartel mare Cosmopolitanne, a half-sister to Graded stakes winners Instygator, Shott Gun and Maybellina.

Gael Garza was the leading opening session buyer with five purchases totaling $1,435,000. Rancho El 48 LLC paid $714,000 for five yearlings and Jimmy Barton, Lance Bland, Gary Cain, and Caliche Walls Venture purchased two yearlings for $585,000.

Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent was the leading consignor and or agent on Night 1 with 15 head for gross receipts of $699,000. Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent sold 16 head for $685,000 and Burns Ranch, Agent had seven yearlings total $670,000.

Flying Cowboy 123 was the leading session one sire (by average, two or more sold) with 12 yearlings averaging $150,167. Favorite Cartel sold 20 yearlings for a $141,150 average and Apollitical Jess had eight head average $95,375.

Dulce Sin Tacha was the leading first-crop sale sire (by average, two or more sold) with five head averaging $38,200.  Cyber Monday had five head average $29,800.

Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale Online Bidding

Online bidding for the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale will be offered by DVAuction. Prospective buyers who want to bid online for the upcoming sale must do two things:

  1. Create an Account
  2. Complete and email an Online Bidder Application

All American Horse Sales Company must approve potential bidders for online bidding. CLICK HERE to complete an Online Bidder Application, then email the completed form to wwiggins@raceruidoso.com. On the day of the sale, go to www.dvauction.com and log in with your username/email and password in the top left-hand corner. Then scroll to the green "view" tab that says Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. This will take you to the sale; follow the instructions on how to bid.

Online bidding will be available at the start of the sale each day, which begins promptly at 4:00 (MDT).
