CYPRESS, CA–OCTOBER 6, 2024–A Favorite Cartel colt out of Remember Me Rose named Accelerated was purchased for a record $850,000 by Gamaliel Garza to make him the sale topper during the 20th renewal of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale that concluded on Sunday.

The $850,000 sale topping price is a record for the Los Alamitos Equine Sale, and it makes Accelerated one of the highest-selling yearlings at a public auction in the entire history of the Quarter Horse racing industry.

The previous record at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale was set in 2021 when a Favorite Cartel filly out of Remember Me Rose sold for $520,000.

This was the most successful Los Alamitos Equine Sale ever, as the sale average yearling price of $44,685 topped the previous sale record average of $38,122 set in 2022, while also representing a 23.7% increase in comparison to the 2023 average yearling sale figures.

A total of 130 yearlings were sold during this weekend for gross sales of $5,809,100. In comparison, 2023 figures had 155 yearlings go for $5,600,200 in gross sales for an average of $36,130. The last three years of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale have resulted in the three highest sale averages of the event's 20-year history.

All in all, the 2024 Los Alamitos Equine Sale had 138 horses go for total receipts in the amount of $5,966,600 for an average of $43,236.

Accelerated, who was Hip 178 in the catalog, was one of two yearlings that sold for over $500,000 on Sunday. His full sister, Hip 177 I Be The Queen, was purchased for $500,000 for Cathy Allred, wife of Los Alamitos Race Course owner Ed Allred. Both Accelerated and I Be The Queen were bred and consigned by Burns Ranch. Dr. Steve Burns of Burns Ranch is a three-time AQHA champion breeder.

"That was so exciting," Dr. Burns said. "Those two entered the sale auction back-to-back and both brought a lot of money. It was thrilling. The cross of Favorite Cartel and Remember Me Rose has been great for Burns Ranch. We love Favorite Cartel. We love Remember Me Rose. What an exceptional cross."

This is the fourth consecutive year that a yearling by Favorite Cartel out of AQHA Dam of Distinction Remember Me Rose has topped the sale.

"What a tremendous sale, particularly Sunday's session," said Vince Genco, the president of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association, which manages the Los Alamitos Equine Sale. "The sale may not have had as many horses as last year, but the overall quality of the yearlings offered was outstanding. We are going to do everything possible to have more quality yearlings at this sale next year because I'm sure there were many buyers here at the end of the sale on Sunday that still wanted to buy more yearlings."

"The record numbers posted this weekend is a testament to the great work of our consignors and the great passion for Quarter Horse racing from our buyers," said Dino Perez, the business manager of the PCQHRA.  "We are so thankful for their continued support."

Accelerated and I Be The Queen are full siblings to AQHA champion colt Cyber Attack and Grade 1 stakes winners Bomb Cyclone, Powerful Favorite, Runforyourlife, and Cyber Monday. This family also includes stakes winners Intense Fire, Majority Interest, Tessta Rossa, Go To Girl and stakes-placed runners The Revenant, Remember To Dash, Jubulani and Reminder.

After three horses sold for over $100,000 each during Saturday's session, an additional seven sold for over $100,000 or more on Sunday.

Agros Horticultores purchased Hip 182 Who Dat, a Favorite Cartel out of Remember Who, for $180,000 to make him the third highest seller of the entire sale. Consigned by Burns Ranch, Who Dat is a full brother to three-time winner Who Kares and is out of a daughter of the great Remember Me Rose.

Luis Roberto Lozano signed the ticket for $162,000 for Hip 180 Hoosier Village, a colt by Apollitical Jess out of Grade 1 futurity finalist Remember The Rose. Also consigned by Burns Ranch, Hoosier Village's dam is by Walk Thru Fire and out of the great Remember Me Rose. Hoosier Village is a full brother to Powerful, who qualified to the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity in 2022.

The Burns Ranch consignment had nine out of the 12 high sellers during this weekend, including four of the top six during Sunday's session.           

Among the other high-selling yearlings on Sunday were Hip 108 Gray Matters, a Favorite Cartel colt out of the stakes winner Fyrefly Jo, and Hip 147 Toby Two, a Favorite Cartel colt out of London Laura. Gray Matters, purchased for $125,000 by West Texas Partners, is a full brother to Grade 2 Southern California Derby runner-up Stuck In Probate.

Toby Two, also purchased for $125,000 by Red Sea Racing, is a full brother to multiple Grade 1 winner London Toby.

Burns Ranch finished as the leading consignor with 72 hips selling for $3,855,700 for an average of $53,551. Ed Allred was second with 31 hips selling for $902,000. R.R. Rasner DVM was the third leading consignor after selling 7 hips for $271,000.

Gamaliel Garza was the leading buyer after purchasing two hips for a total of $882,000. Cathy Allred was the second leading buyer with two purchases for $557,000. Dunn Ranch was the third leading buyer after six hips for $347,000.

Favorite Cartel was the leading sire with 41 head selling for a total of $3,306,000 for an average of $80,634. Seperate Interest was the second leading stallion in gross sales with 13 heads going with $363,500 for an average of $27,962.  Apollitical Jess was the third leading stallion with gross sales with two head selling for $267,000 for an average of $89,000.
