HOUSTON, TX–JUNE 13, 2026–Louisiana Mystery rallied through the stretch and won a dramatic head-bob finish over Hondo Hocks in Saturday night's $50,000 Governors Cup Marathon Stakes (G3) for Quarter Horses three-years-old and older at Sam Houston Race Park.
The 870-yard feature was contested over a fast racing surface and was completed in 46.120, earning a 93 speed index.
A 4-year-old bay gelding by champion sire The Louisiana Cartel from the Stoli mare Faith And Courage, Louisiana Mystery was bred in Louisiana by J. E. Jumonville Jr. and races for Louisiana Mystery Venture.
Conditioned by Marc Jungers and ridden by Luis Vivanco, the gelding angled inside before rallying between rivals and splitting horses two-wide in deep stretch to capture the marathon stakes by a nose. The winner earned $30,000 for the effort, boosting his earnings mark to $75,177.

Bred in Oklahoma by Robyne H. Draper, he races for Diamond L Racing, Abel Lopez and Kolt Redden. Arnold Lewis trains the runner-up, who was ridden by Eliazar Vera and collected $10,000 while earning his first career black type. The three-time winner has earned $105,547.
Another neck behind the top pair was Yippee Ki Yey, a 5-year-old brown gelding by leading sire Tres Seis out of Jess Shantastic, by Fantastic Corona Jr. Bred in Texas by Stanley Forbes, who also owns the gelding, Yippee Ki Yey was trained by Richard Sedillo and ridden by Nestor Duran. Pressing the pace two-wide throughout, he stayed on willingly to finish third, four lengths ahead of the remainder of the field while earning $5,500.
Superfragilistic finished fourth, followed by Thrill and Fury in fifth, Dazzlin Drama was sixth, while Music Dash completed the order of finish in seventh.
