First Crop Sire Chilitos Gets First Stakes Winner

WYNNEWOOD, OK–JUNE 16, 2024–First-crop sire Chilitos got his first stakes winner on Saturday when 2-year-old Seis Chilitos won the $69,090 Sam Houston Juvenile Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.

Jockey Nestor Duran guided the filly to her second victory and first career stakes win in four starts.  The Texas-bred filly clocked 16.756 seconds over the 330 yards to earn a 99-speed index into a 6 mph headwind.

Trainer Juan Diaz, Jr. saddled the $28,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate for owner Jaime Cardenas. Richard Arizpe bred Seis Chilitos from the Tres Seis mare Seis Passes. She has compiled a (4) 2-1-1 record and banked $31,224.

Currently the #3 leading first-crop sire of money earners in 2024, Chilitos has sired 8 winners and 1 stakes winner, including Seis Chilitos SI 99 (2 wins at 2, $31,224, Sam Houston Juvenile), Peppa SI 94 (winner at 2, $11,548 Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge finalist), etc.

He is also the sire of two black-type APHA 2-year-olds, Flyin Chilitos SI 101 (winner at 2, $22,129, 2nd Colors Of Houston Futurity-G2) and Im Chili SI 86 (Winner, $13,701, 3rd Colors of Houston Futurity-G2).

Chilitos won or placed in nine of 11 career starts, winning the Grade 2 Dash For Cash Futurity and finishing second in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1) and Southwest Juvenile Invitational Championship(G2). Also a finalist in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity (RG1) and Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby(RG2), he earned $453,413.
