Five Bar Cartel Sires Grade 1 Winner

NORTH VILLE PLATTE, LA–OCTOBER 28, 2024–AQHA Racing Champion Five Bar Cartel sired his first open Grade 1 winner on Saturday when Shakers No Secret won the Grade 1 440-yard, $277,975 AQHA Racing Challenge Championship (G1) (see related story) at Albuquerque Downs.

Trained by Marc Jungers for owners Abel Lopez, Ethan Lopez, and Manny Dutchover, Shakers No Secret made his quarter-mile trip in :21.042, and his margin of victory was a neck from Nothin Like You. Noe Garcia Jr. rode the gray gelding.

The 5-year-old gelding has won nine of his 27 outs, and the $133,428 winner’s share of the purse from his second stakes victory pushed his bankroll to $442,414.

From seven crops to race, Five Bar Cartel has sired 263 winners, 64 black types (16%), and nearly $11 million earners with average earnings per starter of more than $27,200.

Owned by San Gregorio Racing Stables, Inc., the son of leading sire Corona Cartel, Five Bar Cartel won or placed in eight of 11 starts and earned $1,068,825. He won the Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1), was second in the All-American Derby(G1), and was a finalist in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1), Golden State Million Futurity(G1), and Los Alamitos Super Derby(G1).
