COLLEGE STATION, TX–NOVEMBER 27, 2024–Warren Hohertz, Program Coordinator of Stallion Reproductive Studies, announced today that the Equine Fertility Laboratory at Texas A&M University (TAMU) College of Veterinary Medicine will be offering semen on the legendary sire Streakin La Jolla. His Season Fee is set at $7,500 for frozen semen only, and ICSI.
Bred by the Frisco, Texas-based partnership of B. F. Phillips Jr. and Delbert Smith, Streakin La Jolla was born in 1985 out of the Raise Your Glass (TB) mare Bottom’s Up. The son of Streakin Six started his racing career in 1987 and remained undefeated from eight starts through 1988. He retired to stud in 1989.
His sire Streakin Six sired fived champions, 75 stakes winners, 597 winners and over $17.2 million in progeny earnings, including Champion Sixy Chick SI 106 ($751,284, 1st Sun Country Futurity-G1), Champion Six Fortunes SI 107 ($574,788, 1st Budweiser Derby-G1), Champion Sir Alibi SI 104 ($356,193, 1st Horsemen's QHRA Championship-G1), Champion Sterling Sport 103 ($265,292, 1st AQHA Distance Challenge Championship-G1), Champion Dean Miracle SI 104 ($199,601, 1st First Down Dash H.) and Noblesse Six SI 110 ($1,125,024, 1st All American Futurity-G1).
Streakin La Jolla is a half-brother to G2 placed Bottoms Up Jet SI 93 ($34,801), who is the grandam of leading sire and Grade 3 winner RC Me Leaving You SI 105 ($209,748). His dam, Bottom’s Up, is a half-sister to stakes winner/producer Havinaffair SI 96 ($33,432).
Streakin La Jolla is from the immediate family of stakes winners Aguerrido Cash SI 104 ($174,965), Look For Wranglers SI 102 ($134,270), Fly N Tell SI 98 ($95.086), Moxxy SI 88 ($41,450) and On A Bud High SI 95 ($39,767).
Streakin La Jolla had heart. And he had class. He raced at Delta Downs and Ruidoso Downs, winning a stakes race at both. He won the Sound Of Summer Derby at Delta and the All American Derby Consolation at Ruidoso, where he ended his racing career in 1988. He retired with eight wins from eight starts and earnings of $56,227.
“He was a gentleman,” says Alvin “Bubba” Brossette, who rode Streakin La Jolla in the Sound of Summer Derby. “He was a stakes horse, and he was all business.”
Streakin La Jolla entered stud in Louisiana in 1989. As he gained national prominence, he was purchased in the summer of 1999 by Robert and Karen Nunnally of Roberta, Georgia. The Nunnallys decided to move Streakin La Jolla to Granada Farms in Wheelock, Texas, for the 2000 breeding season.
To say that Streakin La Jolla was a hit in Texas would be an understatement. Under the care of Jimmy Eller and the staff of Granada Farms, he bred several books of more than 200 mares each.
From 32 crops of racing age to date, Streakin La Jolla has sired 798 winners, 181 black-type horses (15%), and 908 ROM. He has sired over $25.1 million in progeny earnings with nearly $21,000 average per starter.
He is a multiple champion sire, including World Champion/two-time Champion Streakin Sin Tacha SI 109 ($692,842, 1st-The Championship At Sunland Park-G1, 1st-MBNA America Challenge Championship S. -G1, 1st-Texas Classic Derby-G1, 1st-MBNA America Texas Challenge-G1) and multiple Champion Mr Jess Perry SI 113 ($687,184, Texas Classic Futurity-G1, NTR).
His other top money earners include Charal Kid SI 113 ($512,719, 1st Dash for Cash Derby-G1, etc.), Hiclass La Jolla-QH SI 104 ($349,118, 1st Speedhorse Gold and Silver Cup Futurity [R]G1), Like Frankie And Me SI 103 ($435,414, 2nd-Golden State Million Futurity-G1 2nd-Champion of Champions-G1), Fashionisanattitude SI 99 ($422,073 2nd-All American Futurity-G1), Hiclass La Jolla SI 104 ($349,118, Texas Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Colt, 1st-Speedhorse Gold and Silver Cup Futurity-G1, 1st-All American Juvenile Invitational, 1st-Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational), etc.
Streakin La Jolla is a leading sire of sires, including his most prolific siring son, World Champion sire Mr Jess Perry, who has over $63 million in earners with a $38,000 average per starter. Mr Jess Perry’s top performers include World Champion runner/sire Apollitical Jess SI 107 ($1,399,831), Champion Matabari SI 104 ($1,410,471), Champion One Famous Eagle SI 101 ($1,387,453), Champion Noconi SI ($1,356,459) and All American Futurity-G1 winner Mr Piloto ($1,002,24).
Mr Jess Perry has become one of the industry’s top leading sire of sires. He surpassed Streakin La Jolla on the leader boards as the #4 all-time leading sire and his son Apollitical Jess is the #3 all-time leading sire with $70 million in money earners.
Other top leading sires by Mr Jess Perry include A Revenant, A Royal Jess, Apollitical Spirit, Captain Courage, Dash Master Jess, Dominyun, Eye Am King, Feature Mr Jess, Jb Kool Jess, Jess Different, Jess Louisiana Blue, Jesse James Jr, Mr Apollitical Dash, Mr Jess Tex, Mr Piloto, One Famous Eagle, One Famous Icon and One Sweet Jess, to name a few.
Streakin La Jolla’s grandson, Apollitical Jess has also become a top leading sire of sires, including A Sweet Jess, A Tell Jess, Ajs Tres Of Paint, Apolole, Apollitical Blood, Apollitical J Legacy, Apollitical Victory, Chilitos, Drakarys, El Tartanero Jess, Eos A Political Win, Flying Cowboy 123, Kj Mucho Macho Man, Mr Apollo Jess, Peepl R Political, PHQ Apollitical Jess, Rocket Seventeen and San Lencho.
Streakin La Jolla staked his claim as one of the industry’s top leading broodmare sires. He currently ranks as the #10 all-time leading broodmare sire with over $51 million in earnings and $26,000 average per starter. His top performer is Grade 1 winner Ol Time Preacher Man ($565,933), who is out of his daughter JJ Streakin Illusion.
Streakin La Jolla was retired from stud duty shortly before his untimely death on June 18, 2009, at which point he was the nation’s all-time ninth leading sire. He was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2012. He still stands in the top 25 all-time leading sires of money earners.
Streakin La Jolla continues to pass down his ability to produce champions, stakes winners and leading sires. His legacy still lives on.
Frozen semen breedings shall be on-farm only, exclusively at the TAMU Large Animal Hospital or Granada Farms in Wheelock, Texas. There will be no chute or booking fee. A $150 semen handling charge is additional. ICSI Only is performed exclusively at Texas A&M University's Equine Fertility Laboratory, with fees payable as billed.
