PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ—JUNE 9, 2021—Coming off a fourth-place effort in the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity trials at Los Alamitos in April, Jess Anothercommando was an impressive one-length winner today at Arizona Downs while setting the fastest qualifying time for the Arizona Downs QH 2-Year-Old Maiden Stakes.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from three trial races contested, will return to the Prescott Valley racetrack on Tuesday, June 29th to vie for the winner's share of a $6,000-added purse going 300 yards.
Jess Anothercommando veered out at the start, under jockey Kevin Carbajal, before clearing the field to stop the timer in :13.607 seconds, equaling a 83 speed index into a 19mph headwind.
Trainer Guillermo Morales conditions the California-bred daughter of leading sire Mr Jess Perry for owner-breeder Veronica Maria Hernandez. In her career debut, at. Los Alamitos Race Course, the brown filly finished second. Out of Coronatac by Corona Cartel, Jess Anothercommando has earned $4,635.
In the opening trial jockey Aaron Belloc rode Shiny Slipper to a one-length win for owner Orlando Granillo and trainer Umberto Belloc. The Oklahoma-bred daughter of leading New Mexico sire Jesse James Jr stopped the timer in :13.720 seconds, into an 8 mph headwind, to record the second fastest time.
Granillo paid $8,000 for the sorrel filly at the 2020 Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City. Charlie and Dixie Patterson bred Shiny Slipper from the Mighty B Valiant mare Put A Shine On It. She has earned $3,312 off a (4) 1-1-0 record.
The final trial went to Nitty Gritty Perry who was bumped and squeezed under jockey Jacob Enriquez but still managed to win by a neck over Fabulous Me. Trainer John Allred saddled the Mr Jess Perry filly in her career debut for owner Scott McDaniel.
McDaniel paid $27,000 for the California-bred filly at the Los Alamitos Equine Mixed Sale. John Andreini bred the gray filly from the Strawfly Special mare Britts Special Eyes.
