ROCK SPRINGS, WY—SEPTEMBER 11, 2021—Coming off a win in the $27,300 Rock Springs - Wyoming Accredited Stallion Derby on August 28th, Bigg Brown rolled to a three-quarter-length win and the fastest qualifying time for the $40,000-est. Wyoming Bred Quarter Horse Derby at Sweetwater Downs Sunday afternoon.
Under jockey Tyson Lusk, stakes winner Bigg Brown clocked :17.496 seconds, a 102 speed index, to get the top qualifying time from the five trial traces.
Trainer Jordan Hadley conditions the brown gelding for owner-breeders Dan and Kim Lapierre. The son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Choctaw River has compiled a (12) 7-2-2 record and banked over $45,000. He was also second in the Rock Springs-Wyoming Bred Futurity and third in the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity last year. Bigg Brown is out of the Devon Lane (TB) mare Purrfect Eve.
Trainer Riley Moosman sent out Blazin Mr Jess to a three-quarter—length win in the first trial to get the second fastest clocking of :17.560 seconds a 99 speed index. Jockey Jesus Valenzuela was ahead gate-to-wire on the Dashin Mr Jess filly owned-and-bred by Pedro Mena.
The multiple stakes winner, out of Blazin Mean by First Moonflash, has won four of seven career starts and earned $32,409. The sorrel filly won the KC Carden Wyoming Bred Derby in her last start, July 31st as well as the Powder River Vet Derby in June.
