Fastest Qualifier Katie Perry Returns to Win $41,000 Idaho Cup Futurity at Pocatello

POCATELLO, ID—SEPTEMBER 12, 2021—Fastest qualifier Katie Perry came back to defeat Rtm Belle by a neck in the $41,000 Idaho Cup Futurity at Pocatello Downs on Sunday afternoon.

Three trials on August 28 determined the field for the 350-yard final for Idaho-bred 2-year-olds.

Katie Perry ($3.40) and Nakia Ramirez were the fastest qualifiers from the trials in 17.825 and came back even faster in the final, finishing in :17.691 and earning a 94 speed index.

Mark Hanson trains the Five Bar Cartel filly for owner Bryon Goody, who also bred the filly out of Sexy Perry, by Mr Jess Perry.

Katie Perry has won four of her seven career starts and earned $24,938, including her winner’s share of $16,400 from Sunday, all at Pocatello. The Idaho Cup was her third futurity appearance after qualifying to the Bitterroot Futurity (G3) in July and the Crush the Curve Futurity in May.

Katie Perry’s stablemate, Rtm Belle, finished second with Jesus Canales aboard. RTM Stables LLC owns the Ivory James filly, who was bred by Susan Hanson, out of the Chickie Cherry Cola mare Rtm Say Your Prayers. Rtm Belle’s half-sister, Rtm Glory Days, finished second in the Idaho Cup Derby earlier on the card.

Rtm Belle was second in her trial as the fourth fastest qualifier. She has $11,720 earned from four starts and has never finished off the board. The Idaho Cup Futurity was her first stakes appearance.

Five Bar Rockstar and jockey Clay Teeter closed strongly to gain third place for trainer and owner Lynn McNeely. Bryon Goody bred the gelding by Five Bar Cartel and out of Genre, by Runaway Winner.

Five Bar Rockstar debuted at Weber and competed in several trials before qualifying to the Idaho Cup Futurity as the fifth fastest qualifier. He has earned $4,350 in five starts.

Completing the field were Eyemoutahere, Zoomin Thru Fire, Momys Little Corona, Big Forge, Chicks Dashin Bandit, Best Not to Judge and Js Easy Money.
