Miss Kool Menace Tops Qualifiers to $50,769 SVLAC/Wyoming Downs Futurity Trials at Laurel Brown

SOUTH JORDAN, UT – MAY 15, 2022 –Trials continued at Laurel Brown on Sunday with six trials for the $50,769 SVLAC/Wyoming Downs Futurity, led by fastest qualifier Miss Kool Menace. The 300-yard final is scheduled for May 30.

The sixth and final trial of the day produced the fastest qualifier as Miss Kool Menace stopped the clock in 15.549 and earned a 98 speed index.

Oscar Cervantes was aboard the Lil Kool Wagon filly for trainer Alvaro Torres and owner John Blonquist. She was bred in Texas by Scarlett Hill Farm, Inc., out of the Krash Cartel mare Menacing Cartel. Sunday’s trial was her career debut.

Jessica Cruz posted the second fastest time of 15.584 as the winner of the fourth trial. The Fdd Dynasty filly earned a 97 speed index in the victory with jockey Julian Zavala.

Jessica Cruz is owned by Gary Laramie and is trained by Glade Van Tassell. She was bred in Oklahoma by Double Bar S Ranch, LLC, out of Jess Cuz, by Mr Jess Perry. Jess Cuz is a multiple graded stakes placed mare who finished second in the Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap (G1) and Golden State Derby (G2) at Los Alamitos.

This was the first career start for Jessica Cruz.

Third fastest qualifier Monicas Favorite won the third trial of the day in 15.585 with a 97 speed index.

Like the top two qualifiers, Monicas Favorite debuted and broke her maiden in the trial and is a stablemate of Miss Kool Menace. Oscar Cervantes was also in the irons.

Monicas Favorite is owned by Jason Berry and Steve Berry, who also bred the filly in Utah. She is by Favorite Cartel, out of the Corona Cartel mare Santa Monica Mv. The dam of Santa Monica Mv is Jess Significant, who won the Ruidoso Futurity (G1) in 2008 and qualified to the All American Futurity (G1).
