Powerful Favorite Gets First Ruidoso Stakes Win In Sunday's Grade 2 Mr Jet Moore

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 31, 2022–Multiple Grade 1 stakes winner Powerful Favorite got his first stakes win off the West Coast today when he defeated a strong field in the Grade 2 $40,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes at Ruidoso Downs.

Ridden by jockey Eduardo Nicasio, Powerful Favorite took an early lead then held to win by three-quarters. He was clocked in :19.484 seconds into a 4 mph crosswind, a 99 speed index for the 400 yards.

Trainer Christopher O'Dell saddled the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel to his 17th career win for owner Rosenthal Ranch, LLC. The $24,000 winner's purse boosted his bankroll to $1,121,957.  The $90,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate of 2017 is a four-time Grade 1 winner at Los Alamitos Race Course. He was second to Perrys Double Down in last year's Mr Jet Moore.

James Markum and Steve Burns bred the sorel gelding from the Ruidoso Derby(G1) winner and multiple Grade 1 producer Remember Me Rose, by Corona Cartel.

Rosenthal Ranch paid $400,000 for a full-brother, Cyber Attack, at the 2021 Ruidoso Select Sale. O'Dell sent the black colt out to a second-place finish in the $1-million Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1) last weekend after he set the fastest qualifying time in the trials.

They also own another full-brother, Runforyourlife, winner of the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity. with earnings of over $620,822.

Runner-up Apolliticalfastprize put in a steady bid under jockey Adrian Ramos to earn $8,000 for second.  Trainer Wesley Giles conditions the Oklahoma homebred for owner-breeder Ezra Elton Lee.

The 4-year-old son of leading sire Apollitical Jess has won four of 15 starts and earned $138,933,  Co-bred with Jason Giles and Marvin Neugebauer, Apolliticalfastprize is out of the Dmnv Mountable mare Ms Fast First Prize.

Graded stakes winner Midday News put in a late bid under jockey Francisco Calderon to earn $4,000 for third. Michael Joiner trains the FDD Dynasty 6-year-old from the Mr Jess Perry mare Summer Love Song.

Owned by the partnership of Linda Joiner, Pat Smith, Izora Southway and Kelly Allen,, Midday News has won six times and earned $358,626. Jim Strealman and Bill Dale bred sorrel gelding in Missouri.

Apollitical Papa, Elmer and Gym N Jam completed the field.
