POCATELLO, ID—MAY 21, 2023—Tenth fastest qualifier Corona B Mine (9-1) was a game winner on Sunday when she upset the field while breaking his maiden in the $38,237 Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity at Pocatello Downs.
Under jockey Jose Figueroa Corona B Mine broke on top then held to a head win over Da Bros Cartel. She completed the 300 yards in :15.870 seconds, an 86 speed index. The first win for the Oregon-bred daughter of multiple stakes sire Kiddy Up was worth $17,589.
Hector Magallanes trains the homebred filly for owner Michel McKay. Co-bred with Shannon McKay, Corona B Mine is out of the Splash Bac mare Time To Splash Bac. She was fourth in her career debut, a trial for the Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity on May 6.
Runner-up Da Bros Cartel races for owner Edwin Rosales and is trained by Jose Gomez. Cesar Moreno rode the Carters Cartel Oregon-bred out of Glitterati by Stoli. Winless in two starts, Da Bros Cartel earned $7,637 for second. Hayden Brothers Ranch is the breeder.
Also still a maiden, third-place finisher Eyesa Noyz Chick picked up $3,824 for her effort. Jay Pitcher trains the daughter of second-crop sire Kvn Corona for owner-breeder Harry Hinck. Nakia Teeter rode the gray Utah-bred out of Eyea Candy Maker by Eyesa Special.
Completing the order of finish were Drive, Winagin, Daguerre, Nowhere Too Run, Jbc Capricho and Jr. Fastest qualifier Knocking It Off was scratched.
