Jess Good Wine Remains Undefeated In 2024 After Winning the $250,000 All American Gold Cup [G1]

ALBUQUERQUE, NM–SEPTEMBER 2, 2024–Trainer Toby Keeton and jockey Bryan Candanosa capped off a big day with their fourth stakes win by Jess Good Wine in the $250,000 All American Gold Cup Stakes [G1] at the Downs at Albuquerque.

Jess Good Wine broke best and held the margin to the wire for a 3/4-length victory over Flash Bak and jockey Francisco Calderon. The son of Good Reason SA clocked a 107 speed index in 20.801 seconds, paying $7.00 to win on 5-2 odds.

Christina Ramos piloted Out Of The Way to third. Kj Desparado, ridden by Adrian Ramos, and Easy Perry Cartel, with Luis Flores Garcia in the irons, completed the five horse field. A Famous Ribbon and Piano Man Sam were scratched.

Jess Good Wine is five and 0 for stakes victories this season, including the Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational Championship [G1], Mr Jet Moore Stakes [G2], Hobbs America Derby Invitational Stakes [G3], and Dee Raper Sooner Stakes.

The four-year-old gelding has lit the board 16 of 18 starts with nine career wins. The $125,000 winner's share of the purse increased his lifetime earnings to $704,413.

Owner Guns Up Racing purchased the seven-time stakes winner from his breeder Flag Ranch for $35,000 in the 2021 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale.

Jess Good Wine is out of the Mr Jess Perry stakes-placed winning mare Mr Perrys Wine, half-sister to Grade 1 winner Time For Wine. He is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Painted Wine Wagon, and from the immediate female family of champions Alice K White and Astica.

Trainer Heath Taylor conditions runner-up and post-time favorite Flash Bak. The six-year-old son of Moonin The Eagle has lit the board 26 of 32 starts with 13 victories and $2,129,638 in the bank. Jim Streelman and Bill Dale bred the eight-time stakes winner in Missouri out of Checknbac by Check Him Out. Valeriano Racing Stables owns the $38,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate.

Leslie and Pierre Amestoy own third-place finisher Out Of The Way in partnership with Roger Beasley. They bought his for $102,000 in the 2021 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

The four-year-old son of First Moonflash has lit the board 13 of 16 starts with earnings of $110,872. Silver Racing Farm LLC bred Out Of The Way in California out of Coronas Fast Honey by Corona Cartel.
