CLAREMORE, OK–SEPTEMBER 30, 2024–Dan and Kaye Jones' homebred Wire Tap scores his second stakes victory of the season in the $15,000 Henry Bowlan Memorial Stakes at Will Rogers Downs on Monday. The 300-yard race was held in memory of the late Paint Horse Hall of Fame inductee Henry Bowlan.
Ridden by jockey Benn Cordarelton, Wire Tap got off to a good start out of the gates, keeping the lead in lane 2 to the wire. The post-time favorite defeated Pevs Wire To Wire by 1 1/2 lengths, clocking a 96 speed index in 15.436 seconds, which paid $3.40 to win on 1-2 odds.
Wire Tap has lit the board 10 of 15 starts with five career wins, including the PSBA Paint Classic Stakes at Remington Park in April. The $9,000 payday from today's victory increased his earnings to over $65,000.
Some of Wire Tap's other top performances include second in the Speedhorse Graham P&A Stakes [G1], Mister Lewie Memorial [G1], and APHA Masterpiece Derby, as well as a third-place finish in the Best In Green County Stakes.
Matt Whitekiller trains Wire Tap for the Joneses, who also own his sire CRM Livewire, the #1 leading APHA sire in the industry, dam Lindys Sign by Second Painted Sign.
Pevs Wire To Wire, guided by Mario Delgado, trailed in second the entire trip, crossing the wire by a head over Queen For Cash and jockey David Alvarez Jr, who had a late gain for third. Turnpikes Judy, piloted by Roman Cruz, completed the order of finish for fourth. Jh Fancy Like, Livewires Turnpike, Randiona and Storms Livewire were scratched.
Clint Crawford saddled Pevs Wire To Wire for owner Jackie Pevehouse, who also bred her in partnership with Gordon Pevehouse. The daughter of CRM Livewire is a multiple stakes-placed winner with over $65,000 in earnings. The Oklahoma-bred filly is out of Pv Queen Bee Candy by Cartels Candy Man.
Trainer Jesus Ruiz conditioned the 2024 leading four-year-old and older Appaloosa Queen For Cash, who has 15 career wins with over $200,000 in earnings. Gary Vaughan bred and owns the seven-year-old mare sired by Hes Relentless and she is out of Ivory Queen by Ivory James.
Seven-time winner Turnpikes Judy has earned over $125,000 for her owners, Shari Burger and Vickie McBee. The five-year-old daughter of Barracuda was bred in Oklahoma by Nolan Pevehouse out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Wagon On Turnpike.
