Nowhere Too Run Is The Fastest In Autumn Derby Trials

GRANTS PASS, OR–SEPTEMBER 30, 2024–Nowhere Too Run found plenty of room Monday night, getting his second consecutive win while setting the fastest time for the Autumn Derby at Grants Pass Downs.

Today's ten fastest qualifiers from the two trial races will return to Grants Pass Downs on Sunday, October 14, to vie for the winner's share of a $20,000-added purse at a distance of 400 yards.

Ridden by jockey Jaime E. Lopez, Nowhere Too Run defeated Makin Chicks Move by a half-a-length in the second trial while clocking the fastest time of 19.762 seconds, a 97-speed index.

Benito Curiel conditions the stakes-winning son of Freakier for owner Onofre Garcia. Denis Valdez bred last year's John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge winner in Washington from the A Classic Dash mare A Cataclysmic Affair. He has won six of 13 starts and earned $52,420.

Second-place finisher Makin Chicks Move held on to the second-fastest time of 19.815, a 96-speed index. Martin Vega trains the Idaho homebred son of Maknmoves for owner-breeder Five Livestock Company LLC. The 3-year-old gelding is out of First Prize Chicks by Spit Curl Jess. Oscar Villa was riding.
