Fastest Qualifier Southwesterly Draws Post 5 for Saturday's John Deere Arizona Juvenile Challenge

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ–JULY 26, 2022–
Scott McDaniel's Southwesterly, a gray daughter of the Favorite Trick (TB) stallion Favorite Cartel and the fastest qualifier from two trials run July 9, heads a field of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday's 350-yard, $60,000-added John Deere Arizona Juvenile Challenge Stakes at Arizona Downs.

Southwesterly made her career debut with a one-length victory in the second trial. A $37,000 yearling purchase at last year's Los Alamitos Equine Sale, the filly is trained by John M. Allred.

Southwesterly drew post 5 and will be ridden by Martin Osuna.

The lone stakes winner in the field, LG Racing's Ms Flaming Finish, drew the rail post and will be ridden by Jesus Canales for trainer Javier Duarte. The sorrel daughter of champion Mr Jess Perry was purchased as a yearling for $37,000 at last year's Los Alamitos Equine Sale, and her two wins in four outs include a neck victory in the 300-yard, $48,000 Crush the Curve Futurity at Pocatello Downs in May.

The winner of this race will earn a berth in the October 22 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments:
