Tres Crystals, Fancy Scarface Return in Oklahoma Derby Trials
Multiple graded stakes winner Tres Crystals will be making his first start of his sophomore season in Sunday's 350-yard Oklahoma Derby (G3) trials at Remington Park.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK-–MARCH 11, 2023–
Tres Crystals and Fancy Scarface are among the 57 3-year-olds entered in Sunday's 350-yard Oklahoma Derby (G3) trials at Remington Park.

Racing for Elizabeth Logan from the barn of trainer Dee Keener, Tres Crystals will be making his first start of his sophomore season off of a 2022 campaign during which the gelded son of champion Tres Seis won the 300-yard, $441,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G2), and Oklahoma's richest horse race, the 350-yard, $1.112-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1).

Tres Crystals has earned $660,167 from seven starts in three states, including Texas and New Mexico. A $30,000 buy at the 2021 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Bryan Candanosa in the first of six trials.

Fancy Scarface will also be making his season debut. Trained by Santos Carrizales Jr. for owner Barboza Racing Corp., the gelded son of Pyc Fun N Fancy ended his 2-year-old campaign with a third-place finish, one length behind winner Rock A Jess V, in Texas' richest horse race, the November 19, $1.209-million Texas Classic Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Fancy Scarface drew post 6 and will be ridden by Juan Pulido in the third heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Sunday's trials will meet in the March 25, $250,000-est. Oklahoma Derby final.
