ALTOONA, IA–SEPTEMBER 25, 2024–Four Iowa-bred Quarter Horse stakes are featured on Saturday's 13-race program at Prairie Meadows Racetrack.
Ten state-bred juveniles are entered back in Saturday's richest race, the 350-yard, $163,460 Jim Bader Futurity (R). CR Freighttrain, a homebred son of Freighttrain B racing for Curt Tobin and Dick Tobin, is the lone stakes winner in the field, as the gelding has won three of his four races during the current Prairie Meadows meet, including the 330-yard, $81,000 Hawkeye Futurity (R) for Iowa-breds on July 6
CR Freighttrain drew the rail post and will be ridden by Ramiro Garcia for trainer Jason Olmstead.
Also on Saturday, Ruben Mojica's AB Boogie puts his three-race win streak on the line in the 400-yard, $126,740 Polk County Derby (R) for Iowa-bred sophomores.
AB Boogie has won two stakes during the current Prairie Meadows meet, including the 350-yard, $40,000 Cy-Hawk Stakes (R) against older state-bred runners on August 3. Manuel Mojica Campos trains the homebred son of champion Apollitical Blood.
AB Boogie drew post ten and will be ridden by Alfredo Triana Jr.
Christine Hovey's Five Bar Phi, the runner-up to AB Boogie in two stakes this season, drew post 2 for Saturday's 400-yard, $70,000 Terrace Hill Stakes (R).
Five Bar Phi is one of four sophomores in the full field of 10 Iowa-breds. The gelded son of Five Bar Cartel will be stretching out in distance off of his second-place finish to AB Boogie in the Cy-Hawk Stakes.
Five Bar Phi drew post two and will be ridden by Angel O. Ramirez for trainer Ed Hardy.
A dozen Iowa-bred fillies and mares are entered in Saturday's 350-yard, $70,000 Future of Iowa Stakes (R).
Vals Sizzling Lips, the runner-up in last year's Future Of Iowa Stakes, is a 5-year-old Valiant Hero mare trained by Alex Wessels for owner B/B Wessels LLC. Vals Sizzling Lips began her Prairie Meadows campaign with consecutive wins against state-bred allowance company, and her record includes a third-place finish, a half of a length behind winner AB Boogie, in the Cy-Hawk Stakes.
