Especially Goodcandy, Asscher Headline Saturday’s Inaugural Texas Classic Oaks Trials

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–OCTOBER 23, 2024–Grade 1 winners Especially Goodcandy and Asscher head a group of 27 sophomore fillies entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Texas Classic Oaks trials at Lone Star Park.

A homebred daughter of Jess Good Candy trained by Trey Wood for owners Mark McCloy and Annette McCloy, Especially Goodcandy will be shortening in distance off of her half-length victory in the September 2, 440-yard All American Oaks (G1) at Albuquerque Downs. The filly has earned $698,289 from nine races, and she ended her 2-year-old season with a second-place finish in Texas’ richest horse race, the 440-yard, $1.176-million Texas Classic Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Especially Goodcandy drew post 4 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez in the first of three trials.

Asscher is coming off of a neck victory at odds of 13-1 in the October 5, 440-yard Dash For Cash Derby G2 at Lone Star Park. Trained by Marc Jungers for owners Lance Bland and Jimmy Barton, the daughter of champion FDD Dynasty has banked $320,970 from eight outs this season, and her four wins include the March 23, 400-yard Los Alamitos Oaks (G1).

Asscher drew the rail post and will be ridden by Christian Ramos in the second heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the November 16, $200,000-est. Texas Classic Oaks final.
